Job Description: School Psychologist

Location: Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction (ACAGJ), Grand Junction, CO

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Dean of Student Services

Work Days: Part-time, flexible daily/weekly schedule (20 hrs)

Desired Start Date: August 2024

Salary Range: $40-45 per hour

Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools are dedicated to the intellectual and moral betterment of students and encourage staff members to take their own moral and intellectual improvement seriously as part of a supportive and excellence-driven culture.

Ascent Classical Academy of Grand Junction is looking for a full-time school psychologist. The School Psychologist serves K-12 students across special education and general education populations who require universal, targeted, and intensive intervention. He or she will have the knowledge, skills, and commitment needed to provide direct and indirect services that help students succeed academically, socially, behaviorally and emotionally. The School Psychologist is a key team member supporting a rigorous Classical Educational curriculum and our mission and vision based on seven core virtues.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of classical education (or the willingness and desire to learn), expertise in diverse learning needs within general education and special education settings, ensure the proper services and evaluations for students who need supplemental programming, and understand compliance with state and federal laws. The School Psychologist works in collaboration with the Student Services evaluation and mental health teams and is accountable to the Dean of Student Services with oversight from the Headmaster.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensure the academic integrity of the school by overseeing the appropriateness of services and accommodations for students in specialized programming
  • Demonstrate effective case management of students
  • Direct MTSS team discussions/decisions
  • Provide individual/group services to students requiring social-emotional/mental health supports
  • Complete assessment, data-based decision-making, and psycho-educational practices in order to plan, consult, collaborate, and/or provide direct services to students who require mental health support
  • Effectively implement crisis prevention, intervention, response, and recovery efforts
  • Engage in effective communication with parents and teachers
  • Assess and provide research-based intervention to students with various disabilities
  • Work collaboratively to design IEPs that support academic growth and positive social interactions for learning to promote educational access
  • Provide services consistent with Ascent Classical Academies' content-rich curriculum
  • Assist general education teachers in planning to meet individual educational goals for students with IEPs
  • Maintain student confidentiality and records in compliance with FERPA
  • Remain faithful to the classical curriculum and the school's mission and vision to train the mind and improve the hearts of students with specialized programming
  • Ensure that required accommodations are consistent with the school's mission and vision
  • Stress the importance of continued student progress, both academically and behaviorally
  • Demonstrate optimism as a model to students
  • Develop the intellect of each student to the utmost of his or her ability
  • Develop the personal character of every student
  • Perform other related duties as requested

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Master's Degree required in a related field
  • CDE Licensure required
  • Commitment to the policies, mission, and vision of Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools of Colorado
  • Commitment to high moral character necessary to sustain ordered liberty and constitutional self-government
  • Knowledge of classical education (or the willingness and desire to learn)
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to effectively articulate information and issues
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced and deadline-oriented environment, superior organization, and computer skills
  • Ability to develop positive and professional relationships with team members
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service and always maintain confidentiality and professionalism
  • Willingness to complete other related duties as requested
  • Eligibility to work in the United States
  • After an offer is accepted, a satisfactory background check as required by state law and Colorado Department of Education

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
  • Must be able to traverse the classroom and adjust one's tone and height by bending or leaning in order to work with each child
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk, working on a computer, or standing
  • Must be able to supervise outdoor duties

Ascent Classical Academy Charter Schools, Inc. (ACACS) is a network of public charter schools in Colorado comprised of four campuses. The governing Board of Directors at ACACS has contracted with Minga Education Group (MEG) to provide employment services for all staff at ACACS. Through this partnership, MEG provides employment services, a personnel system for human resources, benefits, payroll services, and access to a 401(k) plan. For naming purposes, Minga Education Group is the employer.
