Otherfactors which strongly influence the employment process are previous work experience, previous law enforcement experience, twoyears or more of college education, a clear driving record, no history of priorcriminal activity, and a responsible credit history.
SUMMARY
Patrol Deputies are responsiblefor enforcing Federal, State, and Local laws related to public safety andwelfare and deterring, detecting, and apprehending those individuals involvedin criminal activity.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The most important and essentialjob function of the position is to have an attitude of service to others. Attitude is essential to maintain positiverelationships with co-workers, respond professionally, calmly, and politely tomembers of the community, work as a team member, function under pressure, andrespond in a professional manner to supervision. Other duties and responsibilities are listedbelow.
•Attend shift briefings for information on recentincidents, crime trends, wanted persons, missing persons, stolen vehicles, etc.
•Compose reports daily
•Conduct proactive policing through officerpresence and foot patrols in high-crime areas and neighborhoods
•Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls
•Conduct initial investigation of criminal lawviolations
•Conduct and complete traffic crash investigation
•Provide assistance to the public
•Apprehend suspects and violators
•Foster positive relationships with members ofthe community
•Investigate suspicious persons, vehicles, andestablishments
•Conduct appropriate field interviews, takephotographs, obtain fingerprints, and collect DNA
•Report hazards and protect citizens from thosehazards
•Render first aid based on training
•Provide traffic control at traffic crashes, fires,and other disruptions of traffic flow
•Conduct traffic enforcement, through the use of citationsand warnings
•Drive patrol unit within Office guidelines
•Maintain a presentable uniform in accordancewith policy
•Assist other agencies inside assigned zone asdirected
•Other duties as directed by a supervisor

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
High school diploma, generaleducation degree, or equivalent and current or past P.O.S.T. Certification orequivalent.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, andinterpret laws, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmentalregulations.
Ability to write reports, composeor reply to emails, and complete Office forms.
Ability to effectively communicatewith the public and members of this Office.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract,multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, commonfractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio,and percent and interpret information represented in charts and graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common senseunderstanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.Ability to deal with complex problems involving several variables.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid Louisiana driver’s license.
Obtain and maintain P.O.S.T.Certification and all other weapons and control device certifications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

•Specific vision abilities required by this jobinclude close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, andability to adjust focus
•Ability to sprint for short duration inapprehension of suspects and be able to physically detain resistant persons
MENTAL STABILITY
The nature of this importantpublic safety position requires that an employee maintain a high level ofmental stability. The employee must demonstrate reasonable judgment in avariety of stressful and non-stressful situations.
The employee must maintain apositive attitude, positive interpersonal relationships, and be free fromdebilitating anger or hostility. There must be no evidence of problems withdrugs, alcohol, or other addictive behavior or the necessity for psychotropicmedications that would affect the employee's ability to perform the essentialfunctions of this job.
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Deputies are required to directtraffic on busy and noisy roadways, enter homes with various noise levels,search building with alarms sounding, and various other duties involvingdifferent noise levels.
A Patrol Deputy is regularlyexposed to outside weather conditions and may be exposed to wet or humidconditions, moving mechanical parts, and fumes or airborne particles. PatrolDeputies are occasionally exposed to elevated or precarious places, toxic orcaustic chemicals, extreme cold or heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives,and risk of radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usuallymoderate.
