RESPONSIBLE TO: RPM/DRS
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITY: Behavioral health Technician is responsible for
performing a variety of tasks related to the
instruction, supervision, and monitoring of residents
in developing community living skills.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
The Behavioral Health technician is responsible for developing an active treatment approach that is designed to promote a positive therapeutic milieu. He/she is a role model and participates in the training of other Adult Care Workers.
EXAMPLES OF WORK:
1. Instruct and supervise residents in the following areas:
a. Personal hygiene
c. Homemaking skills
1) Cooking
2) House cleaning
2. Developing interpersonal skill
3. Accompany and transport residents on rotating basis to activities such as:
a. Medical or dental appointments, etc.
4. Assist in recreation activities such as:
a. Assisting or transporting to recreational facilities or events
b. Participate in and supervise recreational events
c. Encourage and facilitate home recreation
5. Under the direction of a psychiatrist, responsibilities to include:
a. Monitoring the self-administration of medication to residents per policy
b. Responsible for monitoring health of residents
6. As the Primary staff, monitor and report resident’s progress:
a. Maintain individual records at home for each resident to include resident’s Individual Treatment Plan (ITP)
b. Maintain accurate and objective information for each resident on a daily basis
7. Safety to include:
a. Implementation of physical management techniques to aid in controlling aggressive residents
8. Assists the Residential Program Director in training new BHTs and other administrative duties
9. Professional advancement through a program of self-study to maintain current knowledge of current principles and program development within the professional field.
10. Additional duties as requested.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. The ability to work with Adult whom exhibit severe behavioral problems and maintain a positive demeanor.
2. The knowledge of basic behavior modification principles
3. The skills and knowledge to:
a. Protect resident rights
b. Provide treatment that promotes resident dignity, independence, individuality, strengths, privacy, and choice
c. Recognize common symptoms of mental disorder, personality disorder, or substance abuse
d. Provide the behavioral health services the agency is licensed to provide and that the staff member is authorized to provide
e. Demonstrate cultural competency and diversity appreciation
f. Recognize, prevent, or respond to a resident who may:
1) Be a danger to self or others
2) Behave in an aggressive or destructive manner
3) Need immediate or unscheduled behavior health services

HOURS OF WORK: Twenty (20) to Forty (40) hours per week; non-exempt position.
EVALUATION SCHEDULE: Annual.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age and have a minimum of:
at least two years of behavioral health work experience; or
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 20 – 40 per week
