One-on-One Aide

Organizational Summary

Position Summary

Reporting to the Assistant Education Director this hourly position assists students with cognitive, developmental, and/or physical disabilities, in addition to students who need general support in performing arts and visual arts summer camp programming at the Arvada Center. One-on-One aides also support summer camp instructors in creating inclusive and nurturing learning environments.

Students may range in age from 5-16 years old.

One-on-One aides are scheduled for weekly work with students from 9:00 am-4:00 Monday-Friday throughout the ten weeks of summer camp programming spanning early June through mid-August.

Responsibilities

● Responsible for providing individualized one on one support to help complete campers complete projects/performances

● Provide one-on- one tutorials when necessary along with accommodations and modifications as necessary

● Communicate with Education summer camp team and student families to support students’ social-emotional wellbeing by implementing positive behavior support strategies

● Attend and participate in all required meetings and trainings

● Other reasonable duties as assigned

Skills and Competencies

● Ability to collaborate with summer camp instructors to modify curriculum and teaching materials to suit the needs of students requiring additional support

● Knowledge of various disabilities, special education strategies, and assistive technologies

● Patience, empathy, and the ability to build positive relationships with summer camp students, families, and staff

● Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing circumstances

● Ability to collaborate and effectively communicate with all levels of personnel, patrons, and general public in a cooperative and positive manner as a representative of the Arvada Center

● This position requires active movement throughout the day while accompanying student(s) through a variety of spaces and surfaces

● Work is performed in a classroom environment that includes moving in indoor and outdoor environments

● Must possess prior experience working with students with disabilities (informal and/or classroom) and enjoy working with children

● Applicants should be highly organized, reliable, flexible, and enthusiastic about arts education

● A strong understanding of the needs of children ages 5-16 and a passion for setting every student up for success

Compensation

This is a part-time, nonexempt position earning $25.00 per hour and is eligible for paid sick leave.
