Restorative Practices and PBIS Coordinator Job Description

OVERVIEW: The Restorative Practices and PBIS Coordinator supports the leadership team to ensure that the campus is safe and orderly. The Restorative Practices and PBIS Coordinator assists in the development of a school-wide culture of learning, respect, and community engagement and builds an atmosphere of safety and accountability. The Restorative Practices and PBIS Coordinator assists students in developing positive and effective social behaviors, supports teachers in managing challenging classroom behaviors; and supports parents in communicating their needs and questions and resolving any concerns.

ABOUT US: Arts in Action Community Charter School opened in the Fall of 2011 with grades K-5 and opened Arts in Action Middle School Fall of 2016. Both the elementary and middle school programs aim to provide a rigorous academic foundation while developing the whole child through a rich arts program, a daily socio-emotional learning component, and by modeling advocacy through social justice initiatives. Minimum Qualifications :

TB Test clearance & Department of Justice fingerprint clearance

Five or more years experience working in an elementary or middle school setting

Knowledge of Positive Behavior Incentives and Support (PBIS)

Conversational and Written Proficiency in Spanish and English (strongly preferred)

Technology expertise in Google Docs and computer knowledge (strongly preferred)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Leading the schoolwide PBIS implementation and initiatives

Analyzing school-wide behavioral data and making recommendations based on the data

Work with the leadership and counseling team and school staff to create an atmosphere of respect among all members of the campus community. Support the communication with parents, faculty, and instructional leaders to ensure a shared vision of a respectful school community.

Lead the implementation of Restorative Justice Programs

Cultivate the socio-emotional well-being of the student body by assisting in the development and implementation of programs and strategies to promote positive social growth and awareness, including but not limited to peer counseling, group counseling, bullying awareness week, etc.

Participate in the development of school-wide initiatives, assemblies, and policies related to safety, violence prevention, and positive school culture.

Research resources and assist in creating lessons that support the teaching and implementation of Arts in Actions mission and vision.

Collaborate with the counseling team to develop a curriculum for small groups. Topics for groups may include, but are not limited to emotion management, social skill development, self-esteem, and healthy lifestyles.

Facilitate and/or co-facilitate small group implementation with the counseling team (see possible topics above), and independently facilitate small groups, as appropriate.

Meet with students, as needed to support emotional needs and concerns. Following up with the appropriate documentation and communication with relevant parties (e.g. teachers, parents).

Facilitate frequent communication with parents and families about student needs and concerns.

Collaborate with the counseling and leadership team to conduct student observations in the classroom to build effective behavior support plans.

Collaborate with the counseling and leadership team in planning and executing monthly student recognition assemblies.

Collaborate with the counseling team to develop parent education programs around mental health, socio-emotional well-being, behavioral expectations, parenting skills, support services available in the community, etc.

Collaboration with the school leadership team and other stakeholders in the creation and implementation of different tiers of social-emotional and behavioral support

Mentor students on a regular basis and develop a system to track these sessions.

Lead the tracking/entering of behavioral incident data into the schools Student Information System

Conduct investigations when an incident occurs on campus by collecting relevant witness statements.

Other tasks as needed.

This position works primarily indoors in indoor offices with some outdoor work (including eating and common area(s), auditorium, playground(s), restroom(s), stairs if applicable, and parking lot(s)) with the following possible exposures: dust; wind; sun; insects; bloodborne pathogens and biohazardous waste; variances in temperature (50 degrees to 120 degrees); variances in weather conditions (snow, rain, sleet, etc.); noise which can range from quiet to loud (in excess of 600 students on campus at any given time); fast paced work environment with possible stressful situations and need to multitask; traffic congestion; playground projectiles such as baseballs, footballs, basketballs, etc.; intervening physically to stop conflicts between angry or emotionally upset students; and, dealing with students, parents, employees and the general public who may exhibit unpredictable or anti-social behavior.

Employees in this position may have a higher level of exposure to illness or infection from students.

May be exposed to students who may ask inappropriate personal questions, display socially unacceptable behavior, display physically aggressive behavior, and insult your personal characteristics including appearance, age, sex and race.

There is also frequent contact with staff and the public.

Handle quick turnaround times, multiple deadlines and prioritizing multiple tasks

Handling high levels of stressful situations and responsibilities

WAGE AND BENEFITS: This is a salaried 12-month position with a competitive salary range depending on experience; includes a competitive benefits package. The starting 12-month salary is $66,560-$94,736
