General: 

The Billing Specialist manages the revenue cycle process, including accurate and timely charge entry, claim creation payment entry and A/R follow-up with patients and third party payers. This position works on a team of other Billing Specialists in a central business office representing multiple medical practices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

• Responsible for preparing and submitting clean claims to third party payers either electronically or by paper.
• Coordinates collection process and tracking current collections in NextGen.
• Manages weekly statement process, to include reviewing statements before processing.
• Identifies and resolves patient billing problems
• Responsible for denial and insurance follow-up management.
• Responsible for submitting adjusted, corrected, and/or rebilled claims to third party payers in a timely manner.
• Responsible for posting electronic remits (ERA), manual payments and adjustments, transfer of responsibility and refunds, as necessary and in a timely
manner.
• Assure coding is compliant, accurate and up to date.
• Reviews accounts and makes recommendations to Supervisor regarding non collectible accounts.
• Maintains strictest confidentiality; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Associates degree with 2 years or any combination of education and
work experience in a customer service-related role.
• Experience working with medical payers including Medicare, Medicaid
and commercial insurance,
• Previous experience working in a medical/clinical setting.
• Working knowledge of medical billing systems.
• Working knowledge of coding practices.
• Working knowledge of computers, internet access, and the ability to
navigate within Microsoft Office Suite, or similar programs.
• Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish).
• NextGen experience.
• CPC/CPB designation.
• Knowledge of medical software systems.
• Knowledge of medical terminology
