Arthur Kill Operating Services, LLC is Hiring an Instruments and Controls Technician / Electrician Near Staten Island, NY

We are looking for a Instruments and Controls Technician / Electrician for our Arthur Kill Generating Station in Staten Island, NY.

Job Summary:

The IC&E Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all instruments, controls, and electrical systems at the plant in a safe, reliable, efficient, and environmentally compliant manner.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Firm understanding of the safety and environmental over production expectations at Arthur Kill Power.
  • Recognize safety hazards and follows safety guidelines for personal protection, protection of fellow workers and the protection of the public.
  • Inspects, tests, adjusts, and maintains all instruments, controls, and electrical systems to ensure equipment is in good working condition.
  • Performs preventative maintenance duties on all major equipment and systems as well as emergency back-up systems.
  • Works on plant distributed control system, including troubleshooting and configuration changes.
  • Maintains complete equipment files, logs, and drawings for all designated equipment.
  • Helps to forecast needs for parts and equipment, particularly during planned maintenance outages.
  • Provides guidance and leadership to the plant through normal and abnormal plant operations while ensuring team safety, environmental compliance, and plant reliability.
  • Participates in administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, diagrams, and maintenance records.
  • Inspects, tests, repairs, replaces as necessary all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communications systems and storage batteries.
  • Maintains emissions monitoring equipment as required by air permits.
  • Analyzes and interprets a wide variety of technical test data.
  • Assists with plant shutdown and start-up including the turbine and all auxiliary equipment.
  • Maintains a functional knowledge of the operations software and hardware.
  • Assists in the control of quality and productivity while maintaining good housekeeping standards on a continual basis.
  • Assists in providing skill enhancement training to other personnel, and on-the-job training to less experienced employees
  • Knowledgeable of environmental rules and regulations, and effectively apply them to all work situations.
  • Operate computers, printers, and associated software to support plant operational and reporting needs.
  • Discern and respond to verbal and auditory signals from operating system.
  • Work limited supervision.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Power Plant Environment - Work both inside and outside in all temperatures and climate conditions in accordance with procedures.
  • Work with large rotating equipment, energized electrical equipment in high noise areas, and/or in confined places, at elevations in excess of 100 feet, or from platforms at heights of 5 feet or greater.
  • Required to work overtime as necessary in the form of additional hours per day and additional days per week as dictated by plant operations including but not limited to call-ins and outages both forced and planned.
  • Ability to work in mentally stressful environments: must be able to react to crises where immediate action is required to correct or curtail potentially damaging or hazardous situations.
  • Work with and around hazardous and non-hazardous materials (reference the waste management guidance manual).

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED and
  • 5 years’ related industrial experience including instrumentation system or industrial electrical systems.
  • Candidate must pass Arthur Kill Power pre-employment entrance exam.
  • OR
  • Associates degree in Instrumentation/Electrical related degree and
  • 3 years’ related industrial experience including instrumentation systems or industrial electrical systems
  • Valid State Driver’s License
  • Candidate must pass Arthur Kill Power pre-employment entrance exam.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of the operation of power plant IC&E systems, including instrumentation, controls, and electrical skills.
  • Prefer knowledge of P.L.Cs, Emerson control systems.

Additional Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency reading and interpreting logic diagrams, mechanical and electrical drawings, and technical manuals
  • Strong knowledge of plant systems to effectively implement LOTO program
