JOB SUMMARY: Ensures the institution's culture, education and adherence to title IX, equal employment opportunity, and employment regulations. This includes Title IX and title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Preventing Sexual Violence in Higher Education, section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, harassment, retaliation and employment policies and guidelines.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and implements awareness and educational programs regarding discrimination and sexual harassment prevention, ensuring faculty, staff and students understand their rights and responsibilities under the law
  • Identifies systemic problems relating to complaints and determines appropriate responses, including review and revision of policies, increased monitoring, and increased education and prevention efforts to targeted populations
  • Ensures confidential and impartial complaint resolution processes. Manages the investigative process from beginning to end inclusive of issue identification, planning the approach, compliant intakes, subject and witness interviews, documentation and evidence, review/analysis, conclusion and conclusion of relevant information
  • Collaborates with leadership and constituencies to disseminate information, redesign processes, and leads the investigative processes; collaborates with compliance partners within the department and across the institution to support the overlapping compliance needs and responsibilities
  • Monitors regulations, policies and procedures to ensure institutional compliance
  • Collaborates with the office of the general counsel and when appropriate, external counsel
  • Maintain records and documentation. Produces internal and external reports
  • Serves as the section 504 coordinator and collaborates with staff from the Disability and Learning Resources center (DLRC) in providing resources to students. Works with Human Resources staff on complex concerns and requests for accommodations and work restrictions for staff and faculty
  • Supervises Title IX staff, which includes work allocation, training, and evaluating performance
  • Serves on various planning and policy making committees; recommends and participates in the development of policies, procedures, and guidelines

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in higher education administration or related field is desirable
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a legal, student conduct, student life, employee relations or similar field
  • Experience working in federal and state mandated areas of compliance to include, but not limited to, Title IX, Title VII, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, ADA compliance is required
  • Demonstrated experience conducting complex investigations and rendering appropriate decisions based on evidence
  • Strong presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various campus representatives
  • Knowledge of policy and ability to apply that to unique situations
  • Advanced analytical, evaluative, and objective critical thinking skills and the ability to effectively summarize and present information
  • Skill in formulating policy and developing new strategies and procedures
  • Ability to stay current on changes in various compliance related legislation
  • Expert consultative skills
