You’ll have access to a number of career developmental resources to grow personally and professionally Generous paid time off and holidays What You'll Be Doing The primary purpose of a Fiber Splicer is to splice all the company fiber networks and provide maintenance and emergency support to ARMSTRONG’s CATV and telephone companies regarding all fiber network related issues. A fiber splicer must be competent in climbing skills, equipment operation and have knowledge of all safety laws and rules. A valid driver’s license is essential, and a commercial driver’s license with certain endorsements may be required when applicable. Travel is required. RESPONSIBILITIES: To make all splices to ARMSTRONG’s fiber networks throughout all of ARMSTRONG service areas. Must be willing and able to respond to emergencies that require fiber splicing. Maintain accurate splice documentation. Climbs and is capable of performing splicing duties from poles by means of climbing hooks, ladders, or bucket truck. Installs equipment necessary to activate CATV/Telco plant. Drill holes in poles using a brace and bit, electric drill, battery drill, or gas drill. Mount cable arms and clamps. String messenger strand, cable, fiber optic cable, and drop wire. Lash cables using a lasher. Properly sag in spans. Remove abandoned messenger, cable, and drops. Assist in loading trucks and cable trailers with material and equipment. Bond strand and install proper grounds. Set pedestals. Operate construction trucks and cable burying equipment as required. Dig ditches with mattic, digging bar, shovels, and with the aid of digging machinery. Maintain a variety of hand tools. Properly set up safe work zones. Post proper warning signs and various other means of traffic control. Flag traffic. Perform any and all other work assigned in a safe and efficient manor. Maintain a valid driving license. Commercial driving license where applicable. Accurately sign out material, and sign in unused material. Maintain an accurate inventory of truck stock. Maintain an accurate daily time sheet and progress report. Maintain an accurate vehicle operating log and initiate required vehicle service whenever necessary. Maintain best possible operating performance and appearance of vehicles and equipment within company guidelines. Maintain a neat, clean appearance at all time in a company uniform. Take advantage of company sponsored schools, seminars, correspondence training and any other training to further his/her knowledge of fiber splicing technologies and procedures. Inspect, maintain and use proper safety equipment issued in conformance with OSHA and company safety directives. What You'll Need Must have minimum 1 years working with fiber or electrical. Must have a minimum of a high school education or equivalent. Must have valid driver’s license. Must be of physical size and condition to perform all duties. Must be able to operate construction equipment. Must be able to follow directions given verbally and in writing. Must be able to write neat and legible to fill out time-sheets and reports.
