ARMADA is Hiring a Sr Manager Procurement - Transportation (Hybrid) Near Pittsburgh, PA

The Senior Manager of Transportation Procurement is responsible for the procurement of North American transportation services for all network business to provide the best combination of service, capacity, and cost that meet or exceed our client’s expectations. This position has responsibility for supporting the Director of Transportation Procurement through oversight and management of the daily activities of the Transportation Procurement team. Expectations include ensuring the service performance, committed capacity, surge capacity and optimal transportation cost goals are met while facilitating client based assured supply objectives. This individual will work closely with the Senior Manager of Operations as well as the Field Service team to deliver against process, performance cost improvement and related budget. This position will have direct responsibility for the management and development of Armada’s carriers as well as the coaching and develop the Procurement team to build effective relationships with internal and external partners.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for all procurement activities related to securing competitive transportation services for all assigned business that result in the lowest landed total cost with the highest possible service level. Secure surge volume capacity as required.
  • Assist in the development and successful execution of the overall procurement and carrier management strategy.
  • Develop plans in conjunction with Transportation Operations, Field Services and Account Management for corrective actions to ensure service and budget objectives are achieved.
  • Analyze the transportation network and develop proposals for continuous service, capacity, and cost improvements.
  • Develop and maintain carrier relationships and transportation performance KPI reports for all relevant transportation modes including conducting carrier meetings/reviews. Coordinate with Transportation Operations and others as required to effect improvement.
  • Supports the Transportation Operations Manager/Load Planner/Coordinators in providing capacity to insure load coverage when necessary.
  • Manage the Carrier Merit program.
  • Develop plans in conjunction with the Field Service and Operations teams for corrective actions regarding carrier performance and stakeholder issue resolution to ensure service and budget objectives are achieved.
  • Provide transportation procurement management expertise and inputs to collaboratively assist in the management of Armada’s clients, their business and all related stakeholders (suppliers, DCs and carriers).
  • Identify opportunity areas for improvement and work with Procurement Managers to plan and execute against identified improvement projects.

Performance

  • Proactively coordinate the monitoring and management of carrier performance levels with Field Service and Transportation Operations and facilitate performance improvement calls with carrier.
  • Jointly develop plans in conjunction with Transportation Operations and Field Service for corrective action to ensure budget and performance objectives are consistently achieved.
  • Attend industry related conference and forums.

Relationship Management

  • Develop effective working relationships with Transportation Operations, Customer Service, and Field Service personnel to facilitate process improvements with shippers, carriers and receivers (related to transportation management activities).
  • Develop and support effective internal and external operational relationships with Suppliers, Carriers, DCs and all other network stakeholders as required.
  • Manage resolution of carrier performance issues and escalate to the next level to routinely achieve desired performance levels.
  • Direct appropriate activity based on open issues, projects, and meetings.

 Team Development

  • Develop and execute IPPs and IDPs.
  • Participate and conduct one on one coaching sessions.
  • Provide real time coaching/feedback to assist in team member development.

Other related duties as assigned

  • Travel to Clients, Suppliers, Carriers and DC’s as needed

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Minimum:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field – Business, Transportation, Logistics preferred
  • At least 7 years Transportation experience.
  • Previous supervisory experience.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in related field – Business, Transportation, and Logistics preferred.

Preferred Experience:

  • Management of multi-temp freight and all transportation modes.
  • Management of sizeable transportation procurement activities and teams

Language and Technical Skills requirement

  • Microsoft Office suite of programs, TMS applications, Procurement Management Software
  • Ability to interface with other functional areas including carrier management.
  • Thorough understanding of surface transportation management terms and concepts
  • Proven analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated negotiation skills.

Business Travel

  • Requirement to travel to conferences and key network stakeholder meetings, as needed
