Bus Driver

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Bus Driver at the Arlington-Mansfield Area YMCA provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals. This is a seasonal position, Working June-August.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
• Develops and maintains positive relationships with volunteers, members or program participants and colleagues at all levels of the organization.
• Creates a safe environment in which others feel welcome and respected.
• Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
• Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
• Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and records all information, such as gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms.
• Cleans out bus each day.
• Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisor.
• Follows all policies, procedures, and standards as established by the law or the YMCA (e.g., safety or emergency procedures, behavior guidance strategies, child abuse prevention policies); makes ADA accommodations where appropriate; maintains the program site, equipment, and required program records.
• Reports all incidents or potential safety hazards by completing and submitting incident reports per AMA YMCA policy and procedures.
• Applies all YMCA policies and procedures and exemplifies the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, responsibility, and faith.
• All other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum of 18 years old.
• At least one-year work experience as a bus driver preferred.
• Possess appropriate class license. (CDL license)
• Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicle (bus).
• Desire and ability to work with children
• Track record of building relationships with staff, volunteers, and parents.
• Commitment to inclusion and compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
