Arlington County is Hiring a HUMAN SERVICES SPECIALIST/TRAINEE - BILINGUAL (ENGLISH/SPANISH) Near Washington, VA

JOB
Arlington County's Department of Human Services (DHS) Community Assistance Bureau (CAB) is hiring a Bilingual Human Services Specialist/Trainee (English/Spanish) to assess client needs, provide program referrals, and educate clients and their families on eviction prevention and provide resources to remain stably housed. This position supports the work of CAB’s programs: Clinical Coordination Program (CCP) and Community Outreach Program (COP). Both programs work with Arlington residents to provide access to an array of programs and services promoting the self-sufficiency of immigrants and new residents. The clients served represent a culturally diverse population, including many who speak Spanish and have difficulty communicating in English.Specific duties include: Coordinating with CCP & COP teams to ensure cases are assigned in a timely manner;Informing clients of their case status and available resources;Collaborating with CCP & COP staff to resolve issues relating to cases and electronic records;Networking with community service providers to identify available programs and resources for clients;Assisting clients with ancillary services and wraparound support needed so that they can become more self-sustainable and no longer reliant on eviction prevention funds; Providing case management reports and updating files as needed; andParticipating at community events outside of normal business hours.Arlington County DHS is committed to delivering client services in an effective, equitable, respectful, and trauma-informed manner. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Minimum: This position may be filled at the Trainee or Full Performance level. Bilingual: English/SpanishFull Performance: Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Special Education, Mental Health, or Counseling; andSome experience in human services/social services program delivery including teaching/applying behavior management techniques, counseling, training/teaching the handicapped, applying job training techniques, and/or making human services/social services referrals.Trainee*: Some experience in human services/social services program delivery including teaching/applying behavior management techniques, counseling, training/teaching the handicapped, applying job training techniques, and/or making human services/social services referrals.*Depending upon qualifications, a training period will be established to last no longer than the equivalent of 18 months. At the end of the training period, the employee must meet experience, training, proficiency and certification requirements for the journey level position. Once the candidate qualifies, the one-year probationary period will begin.Substitution: Additional directly related experience can substitute for the education requirement. A Master's degree in a directly related area may substitute for up to one year of experience.Desirables: Preference may be given to candidates who possess one or more of the following: Master's degree in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, Mental Health, Counseling, or related field;Experience within the community working with housing and homeless services for low-income or immigrant communities; and/orAdvanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Work Hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Some telework may be available contingent upon supervisor approval and workload need.Salary: Full Performance: $65,124.80 - $99,548.80 annuallyTrainee: $60,528.00 - $92,393.60 annuallyYour responses to the supplemental questionnaire are considered part of the selection process and are required for this position.
