Arlington County, VA is Hiring a BILINGUAL CPS HUMAN SERVICES CLINICIAN II (FULL-PERFORMANCE/TRAINEE) (ENGLISH/SPANISH) Near Arlington, VA

Position Information

This position may be filled at the Trainee or Full Performance level.
Arlington County Department of Human Services (DHS) Child and Family Services Division (CFSD) is hiring a Bilingual Child Protective Services (CPS) Human Services Clinician II to provide interventions to ensure child safety and well-being as well as stabilizing and supporting families. This employee will be part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team planning, organizing, and coordinating service delivery.
Specific duties include:

  • Performing comprehensive assessments of children and their families, including home visits, to determine risk and safety;
  • Providing emergency crisis intervention to maintain safety and to provide services in the best interest of the youth;
  • Designing and implementing treatment plans with children and families to reduce risk and enhance safety;
  • Participating in court reviews and testifies in court;
  • Searching for and initiating contact with family members and/or additional supportive adults;
  • Educating the community about Child Protective Services and leads mandated reporter trainings;
  • Coordinating and facilitating family engagement activities including Family Partnership meetings; and
  • Documenting assessments, treatment plans, critical incident reports, detailed case contacts, progress notes, and service plans for court review.

Selection Criteria

MINIMUM:
BILINGUAL: English/Spanish
FULL PERFORMANCE:
EDUCATION: Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or other directly related clinical discipline, all of which required a clinical practicum involving diagnostic, treatment, and case management services.
EXPERIENCE: Two years of post-Master's Degree experience providing professional clinical social work services, which included the application of diagnostic, treatment, and case management services.
TRAINEE:
EDUCATION: Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or other directly related clinical discipline, all of which required a clinical practicum involving diagnostic, treatment, and case management services.
Depending upon qualifications, a training period will be established to last no longer than the equivalent of 24 months. At the end of the training period, the employee must meet experience, training, proficiency and certification requirements for the journey level position. Once the candidate qualifies, the one-year probationary period will begin.
SUBSTITUTION: Directly related higher level clinical degrees may substitute for the Master's Degree education requirement and 1 year of experience.
DESIRABLES: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Performing child protective investigations;
  • Foster care and/or family preservation;
  • Working within the court system;
  • Family group facilitation; and/or
  • Virginia licensed or license eligible as a clinical social worker.

Special Requirements

Language Proficiency: An assessment of verbal Spanish proficiency is required before a candidate can be appointed to a bilingual position (English/Spanish). The incumbent in a bilingual position will receive the language pay premium on all hours worked.
Applicant must possess, or obtain by time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence. The applicant must authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. An offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant's driving record.
A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who are selected for employment. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information. A state of Virginia Central Registry check will be performed.

Additional Information

The pay ranges listed above are effective June 30, 2024.
Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. After hours and weekend on-call coverage for approximately two days per month and as needed with flexibility. Some telework is available depending on workload and supervisor approval.
The official title of this position is Human Services Clinician II.
The employee is required to travel daily within Arlington to conduct home visits in the client's homes, to schools, and other collateral sites based on case/client needs and to court to testify on specific cases. Regular travel is also required within and outside the Washington metropolitan area to foster homes and residential treatment sessions.
