Veterinary Technician or Assistant Position

The Ark Animal Hospital in Park Rapids, MN is looking for a Certified Veterinary Technician or experienced veterinary assistant to join our team!

Job Overview:

Candidate would assist veterinarians with appointments, surgeries, and dental procedures. Work with other staff to administer and monitor anesthesia, take digital regular and dental x-rays and perform basic laboratory tests. Handle and care for dogs and cats during appointments, procedures and while hospitalized, in a fear free manner. Communicate with clients in person and over the phone about pet health.

Job Duties Overview: (This is not an exhaustive list of all duties required of the position.)

• Obtain patient history and prepare exam room for doctor
• Enter history and other notes into medical record
• Administer booster vaccines
• Trim toenails and check anal glands
• Administer and monitor anesthesia
• Draw blood samples on dogs and cats
• Scale and polish teeth for dental patients
• Administer medications and treatments to patients
• Safely restrain and handle dogs and cats
• Set up and take digital X-rays
• Answer the phone and address client concerns and schedule appointments
• Admit and discharge surgery patients
• Process basic financial transactions
• Laundry, basic cleaning, sterilizing surgery packs
• Stock and organize supplies

Qualifications:

• Previous experience with customer service and working with the public
• Previous animal handling experience with dogs and cats
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to work well with others as a team
• Basic computer skills to learn new programs
• Love and have an interest in animals and desire to improve skills in pet health care
• Interest in pursuing continuing online education
• Certification as a Veterinary Technician or interest in pursuing certification is preferred.
