• Diagnose and troubleshoot observatory systems.
• Lead working groups addressing performance issues and failures across a wide range of observatory systems, including but not limited to HVAC, instrumentation, telemetry, and drive systems including electric motors.
• Maintain Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and related systems.
• Develop and modify software for PLC hardware.
• Use background experience as applicable to contribute to software development for microcontrollers and FPGAs.
• Identify opportunities for improvement of Observatory subsystems, and lead efforts for optimization.
• Develop and perform field tests of Observatory subsystems.
• Develop and modify procedures and documentation, including electrical drawings and schematics.
• Specify and verify requirements for new projects.
• Participate in design team efforts for Observatory subsystems.
• Prepare proposals for construction.
• Serve as a liaison with vendors when required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Linux and C/C programming ability.
• Ability and familiarity with standard electrical engineering and software tools.
• High level of intellectual curiosity and interest in learning.
• Organizational and communication skills.
