PT - Police Dispatcher

SALARY:
$ 16.19 per hour

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Any combination of training, education, or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties
Preferred:
  • Previous experience with radio or law enforcement.
  • Bilingual in English / Spanish
Additional Eligibility Requirements:
  • Computer literacy to include Microsoft Office
Classification:
  • Non-Exempt
Position Type & Work Schedule:
  • Part-time up to 19.5 hours per week
  • Nights, weekends, rotation shifts, and holidays
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Strong communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate, organize, communicate and present with a diverse population
  • Ability to work effectively in ambiguous situations
  • The ability to be proactive and use your initiative
Work Environment:
  • Indoor office setting with normal noise and lighting levels
Physical Demands:
  • Prolonged sitting and viewing of a computer screen
Travel:
  • 5% in-town training
Note:
  • Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of (1) polygraph exam and (2) background
investigation
  • No benefits
SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:
Operates fixed base communication equipment, including 911 system; receives distress and emergency calls; dispatches mobile units; logs messages transmitted and received; sends and receives messages via criminal justice computer system; operates several phone lines including emergency call boxes; performs various clerical tasks. Must react quickly and calmly in emergencies. Communicating effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, other agencies, and the public. Assists with fingerprinting. Other duties as assigned.
TYPICAL DUTIES:
Serves Students. Operates ACJIS/NCIC systems, and assists with fingerprinting
Maintain daily log(s), including police blotter web page and report log book
Operates fixed two-way base communication equipment to include an emergency call box system
Performs various clerical tasks; customer service
Enter reports, citations, parking permits, and employee status information in the database system
Maintain multiple phone lines including emergency phone lines; Act as liaison with outside public safety agencies and coordinate the initial response
Monitor the fire alarm system for the entire AWC main Campus, and will serve as initial contact for alarm companies covering the satellite campuses
Support and participate in strategic initiatives and perform other duties as assigned
