Arizona State University is Hiring a Mgmt Research Analyst Prin Near Tempe, AZ

Under administrative direction, the Management Research Analyst Principal will research, analyze, and direct complex strategic reports and performs institutional research activities involving the management and reporting of official data in support of university decision making. This position will provide the highest quality university information and support for the decision-making, planning, and reporting needs of the Arizona State University community and beyond. The Management Research Analyst Principal will also coordinate and manage process improvement initiatives for the department. This position will also lead data visualization development and reporting efforts to assist university staff and senior administration with planning and evaluation functions.

Essential Duties

  • Develops, implements, and oversees strategic planning and complex reporting.
  • Determines and/or develops research design methodologies, data analysis, and statistical procedures.
  • Provides timely and accurate insights to meet the needs of internal and external requestors.
  • Utilizes technology for efficient, innovative delivery of data products and services.
  • Support partnerships and initiatives focused on the improvement of higher education outcomes.
  • Develops reporting policies, documentation, and procedures.
  • Develops and coordinates student and human resource data analyses.
  • Performs research, analyzes trends and makes recommendations to support university management reporting needs.
  • Develops measures and accountability reports.
  • Develops and implements outcome-based reporting models, dashboards, and reports.
  • Leads data process improvement initiatives for the office and on behalf of the institution.
  • Confers with appropriate IT area in developing information technology plans and acts as liaison on projects.
  • Leads, coordinates and/or advises on new reporting needs.
  • Trains other university staff on reporting best practices and data interpretation.
  • Represents the department and serves on various university committees.
  • Initiates and prepares reports and documents. May supervise, train, and evaluate assigned staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in a related field and five years of related administrative experience; OR, Eleven years of related administrative experience; OR, Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of data sources relating to institutional research and planning.
  • Experience as a lead analyst for a unit or department.
  • Experience leading projects and initiatives.
  • Experience analyzing higher education student data.
  • Experience analyzing higher education human resources data.
  • Experience following reporting requirements of intense complexity and nuance.
  • Experience managing databases and creating enriched datasets.
  • Experience in using a variety of computer software applications for data management and data reporting.
  • Experience in using database query tools, SQL development, and data visualization tools.
  • Experience in graphic or tabular presentation of complex data.
  • Experience in working with stakeholders to understand their reporting needs.
  • Experience in identifying appropriate data sources and extract and manipulate data by designing, refining, and running complex data queries.
  • Ability to engage in problem/issue identification, review, and verification to ensure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively in an environment subject to changing and potentially conflicting priorities.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team-based environment

Working Environment

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work.
  • Occasional bending, reaching, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 25 pounds. Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities, which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.
