Arizona Autism Charter Schools is Hiring a Classroom Teacher Near Peoria, AZ

Classroom Teacher - Peoria Campus

We have an opening at our West Valley Campus which is located in Peoria and serves students in Kindergarten -5th Grade.

Under the supervision and direction of the Instructional Coach and the Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Manager; the Instructional Lead Teacher will teach and implement Arizona Autism Charter School’s (AZACS) adopted curriculum and students’ IEP goals within the AZACS structured classroom model.

Candidates must be experienced with classroom teaching, ABA teaching strategies, and have significant experience conducting these activities within school settings. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to be trained, coached and be able to motivate instructional staff in the classroom. The Instructional Lead Teacher will work hand-in-hand with the Instructional Coach and the ABA Manager implementing a best-practice education model to achieve optimal results for students on the autism spectrum and related disorders.

Duties:

  • Serve as lead teacher and point person in a classroom of 8-14 students
  • Work with a classroom team that includes two Behavior Specialists with the support and oversight of two Program Managers
  • Ensure classroom support staff are implementing instructional strategies and lessons as set forth by Program Managers
  • Create a safe and effective learning environment 
  • Weekly lesson planning for instruction of state standards with support staff and Instructional Coach
  • Provide daily feedback to support staff 
  • Participate in regular observations and in-the-moment coaching from Instructional Coach and ABA Manager and implement action steps following coaching sessions
  • Collect and report data with high fidelity and analyze data bi-weekly to make instructional decisions 
  • Regular parent communication following AZACS guidelines
  • Modification of materials to meet student needs and IEP requirements
  • Maintain substitute plans in case of Instructional Lead absence
  • Participate in all duties and responsibilities as appropriate for an AZACS faculty member
  • Contribute to IEPs as appropriate
  • Other duties as assigned by the administration

Minimum Qualifications:

  • No Certification required! Candidates must be enrolled in a certification program or have a bachelors degree and be willing to participate in AZACS' brand new teacher cert program. 
  • At least 3 years of experience working with students with moderate to severe disabilities 
  • Mastery and enthusiasm for best practices in autism education and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Track record of success in behavior management with students with autism or other special needs
  • Ability to approach situations with optimism and perseverance
  • Ability to communicate with parents, co-workers and professional contacts in a courteous and professional manner and following AZACS guidelines
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously 
  • Ability to exercise reasonable judgment and maintain confidentiality
  • Experience in structured teaching, center-based model preferred

Required:

  • Valid Arizona IVP fingerprint clearance card required
  • Experience and training in Applied Behavior Analysis(ABA)
  • Must have: Bachelor's degree OR previous teaching experience AND be currently enrolled in a teacher certification program

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Set-up of lessons and instructional activities for classroom support staff. Coaches, monitors, and mentors classroom support staff working with students with disabilities.

ADA AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class require: stooping, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work:

Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. 

Working Conditions:

Work is routinely performed in an indoor and outdoor classroom setting.
