The Arizona Animal Welfare League (AAWL) – the largest and oldest no-kill shelter in Arizona – is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to work in our shelter/infirmary clinic (serving homeless animals) and our Community Vet Clinic (serving owned animals). This is a fast-paced shelter/public environment so we are looking for someone with strong interpersonal and communications skills who is willing to learn and be cross-trained across different areas of our medical departments, including surgery. The Veterinary Technician will assist veterinarians by setting up procedures, assisting during appointments, adhering to standards that keep animals safe, and keeping treatment and lab areas clean and orderly. They will assist in the provision of medical care for patients. Because our shelter animals and AAWL Community Vet Clinic patients are being treated by several different veterinarians, the Vet Technician also must be a self-motivated team player who communicates well and pays great attention to detail.
This position reports directly to the Practice Manager and is a key member of our medical team, which includes clinic veterinarians, shelter veterinarians, volunteers, and medical director. Although this is a full-time non-exempt/hourly position, we also have part-time positions available for those who are looking for some more flexibility.
Veterinarian Technicians interested in a full-time position will be expected to work four 10-hour shifts from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. (including lunch) on Saturdays at our Community Vet Clinic. Part-time hours would be less than 30 hours per week with all-day Saturday shifts required.
