STATUS: Non-Exempt
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the processing, assembly and sterilization of instruments and equipment required for surgical procedures, including floor trays. Monitors and keeps accurate records of sterilization parameters for all autoclaves and the Steris System.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate or equivalent.
Previous Sterile processing experience required.
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION:
CRCST a plus.
WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:
Evaluates the surgery schedule in conjunction with the clinical staff to ensure instrumentation is available for use at the appropriate time. Prioritizes work to facilitate the completion and availability of critical instruments/trays.
Decontaminates, prepares, sterilizes and stores instruments and supplies. Inspects instruments, trays and containers to insure proper function.
Develops instrument tray lists and updates as needed.
Selects and utilizes appropriate sterilization methods/agents based on manufacturer's recommendations. Packages/labels instruments and supplies based on sterilization method and storage requirements.
Performs biological/quality control monitoring according to policy and procedure. Maintains accurate records, completes documentation within shift.
Troubleshoots instrument/sterilizer problems. Reports and/or removes malfunctioning equipment. Informs supervisor or others of problems related.
Follows the principles of asepsis and practices good sterile technique when assisting other members of the surgical team.
