Performs a variety of independent and complex laboratory work and experiments. Analyzes and interprets data, compiles results, and prepares reports. Maintains inventory, ordering, and logs. Writes manuscripts and grant proposals and prepares data visualizations.
Essential FunctionsThe successful candidate will work with animal and human specimens and will process samples for further analysis. Specimens may contain infectious human pathogens including highly pathogenic avian influenza virus or dengue virus. Work involves aseptic technique using class II biosafety cabinet in a high biocontainment environment with personal protective equipment including a respirator. Sample analysis by flow cytometry, microscopy, and virologic assays will be conducted. Individual may be required to work outside of normal work hours if emergency procedures require it. Additional functions include maintaining laboratory records, working with inventory in freezers, making reagents, and communicating with collaborators.
Physical EffortSitting at a biosafety cabinet for prolonged periods of time is expected. Wearing personal protective equipment with a respirator is required.
