General purpose of the job

The Maintenance Manager’s primary responsibility is to ensure the long term reliability of all plant assets including equipment, buildings, structures, and systems within budgeted cost targets. This is accomplished by serving as mentor and champion of the plant’s maintenance philosophy. Specific attention needs to be placed on managing the short-term and long-term needs of the operation and the maintenance personnel in a safe and efficient manner. This position is expected to take a leadership role in safety and continuous improvement. The Maintenance manager is also responsible for developing a competent, effective staff through capable leadership and sound personnel administration.

Individual accountabilities

  • Reliability and life expectancy of plant equipment.
  • Compliance of department’s activities with plant policies.
  • Safe working conditions for department employees and other plant employees. Promote the safety policy.
  • Competence, motivation and development of department employees and promotion of communication and cooperation within the department as well as with other departments.
  • Work with the Environmental Manager to ensure adherence to the Environmental operating permit. Promote the environmental policy.
  • Work with stores and purchasing personnel to develop spare parts inventory and stocking levels.
  • Ensure that proper insurance, hold harmless and other documentation required for the protection of the company is in place before any vendors are permitted access to the property to begin work.
  • Participate in the Maintenance Supervisor On-Call Program.

Education

Degree in technical field is required (Mechanical or Electrical Engineering Degree is preferred), or equivalent experience.

Technical knowledge and certifications

  • Strong cost management and forecasting skills.
  • Solid computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, etc).

Area of experience

Maintenance experience in the cement manufacturing or related industry.

English C2
