ARCTARIS SADDLEBACK SKI OPERATIONS LLC is Hiring a Snowmaker Near Rangeley, ME

This job is for the 24/25 winter season.

Schedule:12-hour shifts, 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am. Work weekends, holidays, and longer stretches up to 10 days in a row. Potential for additional work in another position after snowmaking season.

Basic Function and Overview: Make it snow.

Essential Tasks and Responsibilities:

Duties include, but are not limited to: 

  • Set up guns and hoses as directed on the mountain.
  • Operate snowmaking equipment for creating manufactured snow from water resources.
  • Produce quality snow through the use of air, water, and fan equipment.
  • Relocate guns and hoses to various areas around the mountain.
  • Adjust, turn and move snow guns to maintain snowmaking efficiency.
  • Adjust the water and/or air flow to snow guns.
  • Change nozzles on snow guns to maintain efficiency.
  • Conduct regular maintenance checks on equipment including checking water pipes, fluid levels and volume, temperature controls, energy consumption and diesel fuel systems.
  • Maintain all safety barriers, padding and guards around snowmaking equipment.
  • Responsible for the safe operation of snowmaking guns and systems on hill and in snowmaking facilities.
  • Required to understand and follow all operational procedures as well as the manufacturer’s recommended operating guidelines.
  • Be able to follow OSHA and Workplace Safety Standards.
  • Be able to follow instructions and communicate effectively.
  • Be able to perform required daily maintenance in adverse conditions on multiple forms of transportation in a safe manner.
  • Work safely in close proximity to heavy equipment, high voltage, and high water pressure.
  • Work closely with and assist other departments such as Grooming, Ski Patrol, and Lift Operations.
  • Test the quality of snow as it is made, report findings and conditions to supervisor.
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and during snowstorms.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities: 

  • Have the ability to operate a snowmobile in adverse conditions on rugged terrain.
  • Self-motivated and able to satisfactorily perform tasks without supervision.
  • Able to operate snowmaking equipment safely.
  • Must possess valid driver’s license.
  • Good organizational and mechanical skills.
  • Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw conclusions.
  • Basic hand tool knowledge.

Required Education and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Physical Demands:

  • Work outside in an extreme cold environment for 12-hour shifts.
  • Lift up to 60 pounds.
  • Walk on snowy and icy slopes at various inclines, at times in total darkness.
  • Use hands and fingers to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; taste or smell, talk and hear.
  • Specific visual abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration.
  • The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
