Architecture by Design, Inc. seeks Project Manager

Company Description

Architecture by Design (ABD) seeks a dynamic individual to join our creative team supporting our mission of providing attainable, quality design solutions all while mindful of economic considerations. We are a medium sized architecture firm based in historic Ellicott City, Maryland. Projects are primarily residential and light commercial consisting of wood frame as well as podium-style construction. Many are focused around affordable/workforce housing utilizing LIHTC (state-funded) financing and combining sustainable features within the design. About the role:

As a project manager at ABD you will participate in all project phases and contribute to the high quality design and technical documents necessary for constructing projects.

In the first three months you will:

  • Work with firm leaders to develop project strategies and design concepts
  • Work with clients to understand their needs and be their champion throughout the project
  • Lead the internal design team and manage the project budgets and staffing
  • Coordinate with external consultants to ensure consistency of design concept and well-coordinated drawing sets
  • Visit regional project sites that are actively under construction
  • Attend client meetings (virtual and in person)
  • Share your background and expertise with your new colleagues and get to know them on a personal level

Over time you will:

  • Manage, review, and produce SD, DD and CD documents for projects of varying sizes.
  • Mentor and manage junior staff and student interns.
  • Coordinate project documentation execution, construction plans and details, and consultant team while ensuring quality control and completion
  • Demonstrate creativity, foresight, and professional judgment in solving architectural issues
  • Lead coordination meetings with consultants, clients, and within the office
  • Coordinate engineering systems integration with architectural aspects of projects
  • Review shop drawings, material samples, and CDs
  • Perform & oversee construction observation duties
  • Influence and help guide the firm culture

Qualifications:

  • Experience in managing the preparation of technical design documents
  • Familiarity with building codes, specifications, building and engineering systems as well as accessibility
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently or manage project team members collaborating with you on a project
  • Experience working with engineering consultants (MEP, Structural, Civil, etc.)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD 2018 or newer, Sketch-Up, Bluebeam Revu is required.
  • Working knowledge of Revit is a plus
  • Experience in wood construction is preferred
  • NAAB Accredited Architecture Degree (B.Arch or M.Arch) or equivalent experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Licensure in Maryland, or the ability/desire to become licensed is beneficial
  • 7-10 years of experience

Compensation:

Salary range for this position is $75,000-$95,000 depending on qualifications and

experience. Performance bonuses may be awarded annually.

Location:

The office is located in the historic district of downtown Ellicott City, MD. Most staff work in the office every day, but flexibility can be considered after 6 months of employment.

Full time, 40 hours per week.
