Early Childhood Director - Prek for All and 3K for All Program - Good Shepherd Catholic School Hiring now for Midyear Replacement 2023-24

Good Shepherd School, located in Manhattan, is inviting committed and talented early childhood educators to lead its Prek for All and 3K for All program. The Early Childhood (EC) Director will be part of the school leadership team and report to the school principal. The EC Director will work closely with the staff in the four UPK classrooms to provide high quality instruction, work closely with families and ensure a wonderful beginning of the educational journey of the 3 and 4 year old children enrolled in the program.

Core Competencies:

  • Successful teaching and leadership experience as an early childhood educator
  • Familiarity with the NYC Department of Education PKFA/3KFA policies and procedures
  • Knowledge and understanding of New York State Early Childhood Learning Standards
  • Knowledge and understanding of the NYC Early Childhood Framework for Quality
  • Understanding of and respect for the developmental, cultural, and linguistic diversity that is part of the richness of the NYC early childhood landscape
  • High expectations for instruction and social emotional support for all students
  • Ability to successfully lead and coach early childhood staff using research-based best practices aligned with the highest rating expectations of ECERS-3 and CLASS
  • Commitment to leading staff in providing rich and meaningful family engagement support and resources so as to promote the extension of learning in the home
  • Respect and appreciation of the families who enroll their children in the program
  • Excellent interpersonal, leadership, verbal and written communication skills

Core Roles/Responsibilities:

The Early Childhood Program Director serves as the Instructional Leader for the early childhood program in an ADNY elementary school. In this role he/she:

  • Promotes and models a strong, mutually respectful relationship between the school staff and the families that they serve
  • Works closely with the school principal to set, nurture and meet high expectations in terms of school culture, professionalism, cultural responsiveness and instruction
  • Ensures program compliance with the NYC PKFA/3K policy and procedures
  • Ensures high quality implementation of the Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold system
  • Ensures the implementation of Positive Behavior Guidance, as per PFKA/3K guidelines
  • Supervises staff in providing a program that meets the varied needs of the children and families served by the program.
  • Conducts daily walk-throughs, models best practices and provides formative feedback to staff
  • Trains and coaches teaching staff to meet program standards
  • Uses ECERS and CLASS evaluations to plan for and implement ongoing program support
  • Works with school principal to evaluate staff performance
  • Uses student and program assessment data to work with staff to meet the needs of all students
  • Manages and assists admin staff in timely completion of all paperwork relating to PKFA/3KFA

Qualifications:

  • Master of Education in Early Childhood, Early Childhood Special Education or a related field (required)
  • Current New York State Teaching Certification in Early Childhood or Childhood Teaching (required)
  • At least 3-5 years of experience as a teacher with classroom experience including 3 years of experience as a lead teacher in an Early Childhood classroom (required)
  • Experience working successfully in an inclusive and diverse work environment
  • Proficient in the use of technology (social media, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, ability to learn various educational communication platforms)
  • First Aid and CPR certification preferred.
  • Bilingual language skills preferred.

Other:

  • If offered the position, clearance in the NYC PETS system will be required.
  • Salary range $70,000-80,000; comprehensive benefits package included.

Position start date: Immediate as agreed to with Principal and the Associate Superintendent for Early Childhood
