Archdiocese of Detroit is Hiring a Van Driver Near Detroit, MI

Title of the position: Van Driver
Organization: Corporate Work Study
Department: Transportation
Reports to: Director of Transportation
Type: Part Time/10 Month
Hourly/Non-Exempt
General Description
The Van Driver is responsible for transporting students to/from their work site using school owned mini-vans. 
Drivers are responsible for student safety, must comply with all traffic and safety regulations, and communicate with the Transportation Director. Shifts are from approximately 7:30-10:00 am and 3:00-5:30 pm.
This position is for the 10-month school year and does not require services over the summer. However, at the end of each school year, you will be notified of reasonable assurance of employment for the next school as applicable.
Key Areas of Responsibility
  • Vehicle Maintenance and Driving
    • Comply with all traffic and safety rules and regulations
    • Complete annual driver safety refresher training course sponsored by and held at DCRHS
    • Adhere to and enforce Van Safety Rules
    • Regulate heating, lighting, and ventilation systems for passenger comfort
    • Candidate must be able to perform routine vehicle inspection checks and inform Transportation Director of any maintenance problems or safety issues that need to be addressed.
    • Immediately report any accident or incident involving the vehicle or student
    • Vans are intended for school and DCRHS Students only and not for personal use. Unauthorized use or passengers are not permitted.
  • Student Safety
    • Ensure use of seat belts at all times
    • Ensure and maintain student headcount in the van at all times
    • Never allow unauthorized persons in the vehicle at any time
    • Never leave students at any location other than designated work site
    • Never allow student to take a ride from anyone else
Requirements
High school diploma or GED
Excellent driving record
Hold and maintain a valid Michigan driver’s license (subject to initial and random verification)
Signed Driver Agreement and Code of Conduct Forms (attached)
Ability to operate and communicate clearly on a phone
Effectively communicate with students, parents, school staff, and others in a calm and respectful manner at all times
Sensitivity to the ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds of the student body
Positive attitude
