2nd grade Elementary Teacher –
Position Description
Immaculate Conception Catholic School is seeking a Lower Elementary teacher for the 2023-24 school year. The teacher must possess a love of learning and uphold the teachings of the Catholic Church. Highly effective classroom management and knowledge of best teaching practices, including differentiation, are essential.
We are looking for a creative and motivated educator to be part of our faith-filled school. We have an excellent staff committed to serving our students and families. Two years or more classroom teaching experience is preferred. Candidate will be preferably Catholic due to coursework needed to teach in this Catholic school (Religion class/sacraments)
Qualifications/Requirements
Essential Job Qualifications:
  • Preparation of students for sacraments and other grade appropriate religious requirements (1st Reconciliation & 1st Communion).
  • Teacher will teach all subjects: Religion, Reading, Phonics, English, Math, Science and Social Studies
  • Potential attendance at Sacramental workshops/parent gatherings, preparation.
  • Certified teaching certificate through the Department of Education for the State of Michigan. All teachers are required to hold the appropriate endorsement for the subject(s) they are assigned to teach. 
  • Certified as a Catechist or working on it.
  • Successful experience working with young children, particularly in a Catholic or private school environment.
  • Effective classroom management skills.
  • Ability/willingness to teach Cursive handwriting.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; parent contact; weekly newsletters.
  • Commitment to the school mission and philosophy and Catholic Identity
  • Displays a high degree of knowledge in the subject matter assigned and is continuously upgrading competence.
  • Organizes learning activities to provide varied classroom experiences that are congruent with educational goal, objectives, and Catholic Faith.
  • Applies sound principles of learning and motivation in the planning, delivery, and assessment phases of instructional methodology.
  • Uses technology as a tool within the classroom for learning and instruction.
  • Establishes effective relationships with students and models respect for and acceptance of all persons in the Catholic middle school setting.
  • Establishes effective relationships with parent, community, and other staff members.
  • Maintains professional ethics and responsibilities including participation in the total school program, curriculum development and building committees providing a positive role model for students.
  • Attend all after school duties, meetings, parent conferences et al as assigned by contract.
  • Personal traits that include patience, sensitivity, discretion, and a healthy sense of humor.
All teachers in the Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Detroit shall be certified and /or approved for teaching by the Department of Education for the State of Michigan. All teachers are required to hold the appropriate endorsement for the subject(s) they are assigned to teach. All teachers who are catechists (teachers of religion), must be certified by the Department of Evangelization, Catechesis and Schools.
