Utility Construction Specialist

Seeking a motivated and highly skilled individual to provide planning, scheduling, reporting, and project coordination for utility right-of-way utility management programs.

Job Type: Full-Time , Non-Exempt

Location:

Pay:$22-26/hr base.

ARBORMETRICS specializes in combining the power and expertise of our people, software, and hardware into mobile workforce solutions that streamline your vegetation management program.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

  • Provide professional oversight of road building or reclamation activities associated with new electric transmission construction projects.
  • Provide primary property owner/ customer interface and communication in the field.
  • Assist in problem analysis and development of compliance strategies with limited direct supervision or direction.
  • Assist in inspecting, and providing advice on operations, construction, procedures, records, and training to ensure compliance with environment/ agricultural requirements prescribed in laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures.
  • Manage SWPPP (Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan) for utility transmission construction projects.
  • Manage and oversee access and rehabilitation construction crews.
  • Develops skills and knowledge necessary to exercise judgment in modifying the detail of work being performed to accommodate field conditions.
  • Completing an environmental assessment and water quality evaluation study and maintaining environmental compliance throughout the project.
  • Provide technical support in the field and general oversight of contractors performing work in multiple construction specializations, such as substation site preparation and grading, stormwater management, field construction management, and coordination, environmental compliance, erosion and sediment control, civil site work, concrete construction, road construction and construction site rehabilitation, including documentation of permitting requirements and invoice review for new transmission substations, expansions of existing substations. 
  • Provide inspection of construction work site with increased complexity by analyzing and evaluating control systems, equipment, process improvements, and other programs for assurance that construction work is built, modified, operated, and/or maintained as designed by company policy, procedures, and/or requirements. Completing an environmental assessment and water quality evaluation study and maintaining environmental compliance throughout the project.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Ability to travel and stay overnight up to 4 nights a week (meals and lodging covered by the company).
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work in a team environment under a team lead.
  • Developing skills to coordinate multiple tasks at multiple locations.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Education & Experience

  • 4-year degree in Construction Management, Environmental Science, or significant related field experience preferred

OR

  • 2-year A.S. Degree with 1 year of relevant experience

Pre-Screen

  • Upon offer, employees may be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen, background, and/or MVR check.

License & Certifications:

  • Valid Driver's License Required.

Physical Requirements:

  • RARE (less than 10%): stooping, kneeling, squatting, body twisting, crawling, lifting over 10 lbs. to 50 lbs., lifting up to 50 lbs., color vision, climbing ladders, climbing stairs, climbing poles, lifting, pushing, pulling.
  • OCCASIONAL (up to 33%): sitting, lifting up to 10 lbs., reaching, range of motion, balancing, carrying, manual dexterity, climbing on/off truck, gripping.
  • FREQUENT (up to 66%): standing, walking, reading, hearing-speech range, depth perception, sense of touch, seeing distant.
  • CONTINUOUS (up to 100%): seeing, and speaking clearly.

Safety

Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must have sufficient eyesight to judge distance/coordination of equipment and tools, be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods, be able to withstand exposure to all kinds of weather while completing work assignments, be able to wear personal protective equipment as necessary, be able to enter and exit a vehicle numerous times a day, have the endurance necessary to traverse various terrain, be capable of performing job duties throughout a standard 8- or 10-hour day, be able to communicate with others, read, write, and comprehend written/verbal job instructions and information, and communicate and handle conflict professionally.

  • Works in all temperatures and weather
  • May work around excessive noise from machines, chain saw, wood chippers, and other equipment with hearing protection
  • May be exposed to nature i.e., irritating plants and biting or stinging insects, and dust
  • May work on unlevel terrain
  • May be exposed to dogs and other animals
