Arabesque Conservatory of Music is excited to offer a new educational program tailored specifically for individuals with special needs, focusing on sewing and fashion design. Our initiative aims to cultivate creativity, enhance fine motor skills, and provide a therapeutic outlet through the art of fashion design and garment creation. We are seeking passionate, skilled, and creative Sewing and Fashion Design Instructors to deliver personalized, in-home instruction on a contract basis.

Position Overview:
As an In-Home Sewing and Fashion Design Instructor with Arabesque Conservatory of Music, you will provide one-on-one instruction to students with special needs directly in their homes. This role involves teaching the fundamentals of sewing, garment construction, and design principles, while creating a supportive learning environment that adapts to the unique abilities and interests of each student.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct initial assessments to understand each student’s interests, abilities, and goals related to sewing and fashion design.
  • Develop customized lesson plans that cover basic to advanced sewing techniques, pattern making, fabric selection, and garment construction.
  • Teach various aspects of fashion design including sketching designs, choosing fabrics, and using sewing equipment safely and effectively.
  • Provide patient, engaging, and adaptive instruction to foster a love for fashion design and encourage creativity and skill development.
  • Monitor and document student progress, adjusting lesson plans and teaching methods as needed to ensure a positive and productive learning experience.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents, guardians, and any involved professionals to provide updates on progress and discuss ways to integrate sewing and fashion design into the student’s daily life.
  • Ensure a safe and suitable learning environment within the student’s home for sewing and design activities.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience as a Sewing or Fashion Design Instructor with a strong portfolio demonstrating a wide range of design styles and sewing techniques.
  • Previous experience or training in working with individuals with special needs is highly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • A nurturing, adaptable, and encouraging approach to teaching.
  • Must have reliable transportation for in-home visits.
  • Available to commit to a contract position with flexible scheduling based on student needs.

Contract Details:

  • This is a contract position; specific terms, including session frequency, duration, and compensation, will be discussed with successful candidates.
  • Instructors are expected to provide their own sewing equipment and materials necessary for in-home lessons, including sewing machines, fabric, threads, and other sewing tools.
