    POSITION OVERVIEW
    Under direction of the MLL Coordinator, the Elementary Multilingual Learner Instructional Coach serves as a teacher leader and specialist supporting Pre-K-5 teachers who serve Multilingual Learners across content areas. The coach develops and facilitates professional development related to the district’s instructional and curriculum goals. As a leader and specialist, the Instructional Coach collaborates with, building coaches and supports teachers, paraprofessionals and school leaders. The coach identifies, develops and implements curriculum support for multilingual learners and develops instructional strategies designed to improve outcomes for our MLL students. Additionally, the MLL coach supports the MLL team in WIDA assessment administration, identification of MLLs, utilization of data and development of instructional schedules.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
    • Support all elementary MLL teachers with implementation of MLL curriculum
    • Support Pre-K-5 content teachers with scaffolding, differentiation and best practices to support MLLs in content classrooms
    • Collaborate with content teachers to identify the language needs of multilingual learners in their classes
    • Provide coaching support to content teachers on effective instructional strategies for multilingual learners, including differentiation and scaffolding
    • Support MLL teachers in developing and implementing language development plans for their students
    • Provide guidance to content teachers on creating materials and assessments that are accessible to multilingual learners.
    • Provide teachers with co-teaching coaching opportunities to support them with best practices for MLLs
    • Support MLL teachers in the administration of all WIDA assessments
    • Assist in development of ACCESS testing schedules for WIDA ACCESS administration
    • Support MLL teachers during the administration of ACCESS
    • Support MLL teachers with assignment and entry of accommodations on WIDA DRC
    • Collaborate with content and MLL teachers to ensure appropriate interventions are utilized in the classroom
    • Support new MLL staff members on ongoing data entry and duties to include various learning platforms and learning management systems
    • Attend PLCs and provide instructional and data support
    • Work closely with district leaders (special education, immersion, etc.) to implement protocols and guidelines to support MLLs across the district
    • Collaborate with building and district administrators and teachers to implement district and school-wide MLL initiatives
    • Assist with appropriate accommodation implementation on standardized tests, classroom assignments and assessments
    • Assist staff with records review process and data entry associated with new MLL students
    • Collaborate with MLL team to plan for MLL Summer Academy
    • Work with MLL Coordinator to determine curriculum and resources to be used during the program
    • Support District MLL Specialist with delivery of PL and implementation of PL after training
    • Collaborate with MLL team to plan parent and family events and supports
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Below are the qualifications for this position:
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience teaching multilingual learners with a record of successfully impacting student achievement and working successfully with students and teachers.
    • Must already have DOE TESOL Certification
    • Master’s degree in Education or a Bachelor’s degree plus 30 graduate credits.
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills
    • Knowledge of best practices in supporting multilingual learners
    • Training in SIOP
    • Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners.
    • Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills, including giving and receiving constructive feedback
    • Proven ability in using student-level data to guide instructional decisions.
    • Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise
    • Demonstrates evidence of professional growth, including leadership and participation in a wide range of significant professional development activities
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
    PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
    The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.

    • All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
