    POSITION OVERVIEW
    Under direction of the Building Principal, the Multilingual Learner (ESL) Teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students. Provides an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social and emotional development of individuals to ensure Success for Every Student. Supervises students in a variety of school related settings. Monitors and evaluates student outcomes. Communicates and interacts with students, parents, staff and community. Develops, selects and modifies instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students. Maintains appropriate records and follows required procedures and practices. Monitors appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
    The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all the responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:
    • Plans and provides small group and push-In instruction for students in order to maximize English proficiency
    • Plans and provides hybrid (in person) and virtual instruction
    • Works with district EL team and school staffs to accomplish District EL mission and objectives
    • Obtains necessary WIDA test certifications
    • Administers placement tests to determine student ESL eligibility
    • Administers annual ACCESS test to EL students to determine growth in language proficiency
    • Communicates with and provides instructional strategies to regular classroom teachers enabling them to increase the learning of EL students in the regular classroom
    • Determines appropriate EL accommodations for students and support classroom teachers in their application.
    • Communicates EL student progress to parents via parent conferences, IEP meetings, phone calls, etc.
    • Maintain accurate and complete records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation
    • Prepared to plan a program of study that meets the individual needs and abilities of students.
    • Ability and willingness to learn and use instructional technology
    • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning
    • Employs a variety of instructional techniques consistent with measured needs of students
    • Strives to maintain and improve practice through ongoing professional learning
    • Other duties as directed by immediate supervisor
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Below are the qualifications for this position:
    • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college
    • Hold or eligible for State of Delaware Certification as an English as a Second Language Teacher
    • Demonstrated knowledge of subject content, curriculum, methodology of effective teaching
    • Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs
    • Skilled in the use of multi-media and computer technology to enhance learning
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with students, peers, administrators, and parents
    • Demonstrated skill in oral and written communications; excellent human relations skills
    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
    The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
    PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
    The work of this class is generally performed in a school environment. Work may require the ability to move around the school and classroom.

    • All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.
    • Anyone offered employment is required to provide the following: proper identification (Social Security Card and Driver’s License), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry.
