DESCRIPTION

• Maintains charts, process department admissions to MED/SURG, PCU and ICU. 
• Enters orders in Meditech and notifies nurses of new orders.
• Discharge charts are placed in appropriate order and put in basket for medical records by end of shift, with charges entered into Meditech.
• Request and retrieves medical records as requested.
• Administrative guidelines followed for maintenance of charts.
• Organizes, cleans, and maintains unit work area, supplies, and equipment.
• Assist with ordering supplies.
• Assists admissions department in rapid registration of multiple urgent./ emergent patients.
• Answers telephone and patient call light system and routes call/message to appropriate department member. Follows phone etiquette policy.
• Notify appropriate nurse of STAT order immediately.
• STAT orders are transcribed within 15 minutes.
• Photocopies records per request in timely manner.
• Prepares appropriate documents for patient transfer.
• Able to use copier, fax, and computer.
• Maintain confidentiality at all time in accordance with Protected Health Information (PHI) 

Education/ Qualifications:

• High School Diploma, or GED 

• Experience with computers

• CPR certification (new hires w/in 90 days of date of hire)

• Must complete and pass Telemetry Monitoring and Cardiac Rhythms and Dysrhythmias class (new hires w/in 30

days of DOH) and annually

Experience:

Prior experience with computers and medical terminology preferred but not required.

Physical Demands:

Employee is required to both sit and stand for prolonged periods of time. Will be required to lift up to 50 lbs. Bending, stooping, are all frequently done in a workday. The ability to think and work under stress, to tolerate being subjected to frequent interruptions, and be willing to work beyond normal working hours as necessary. Requires communication ability (speak, read, comprehend, and write)

Working Environment:

Works in a climate controlled medical setting.

Equipment:

Ability to use Office Equipment.
