Summary Job Description

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides 1:1 behavioral intervention to children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder. The RBT will work in the community based on the needs of the child. The RBT addresses functional communication and skill acquisition (daily living, vocational, self-help, self-control) in a variety of areas as described by goals set forth in the ABA treatment plan. The RBT models applied behavior analysis principles for the child and the caregiver as outlined in the child’s treatment plan as well as those strategies given directly by the BCBA Supervisor.

Essential Duties Include The Following

  • Structured one-on-one instruction with children diagnosed with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  • Promote the development of functional communication skills (i.e. speaking and using assistive communication devices).
  • Provide instruction on social skills (i.e. social interactions, play behavior, and conversational skills).
  • Support independence with adaptive living skills (daily routines).
  • Develop and maintain a positive rapport with each client and family.
  • Follow all policies and protocols set forth in the ALI employee handbook.
  • Maintain data collection and graphing for each behavior protocol and program implemented.
  • Complete daily behavior logs of progress and/or lack of progress occurring during each session (including any ALI data for problem behavior).
  • Maintain treatment binder in a neat and orderly fashion.
  • Update your supervisor about the child you are working with especially if there are any concerns.
  • Direct the child’s caregivers and supports to your supervisor for any questions pertaining to the child’s goals being addressed, progress being made, and strategies to employ.
  • Keep professional boundaries with the child, family, and circle of support.
  • All other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Job Requirements

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States

  • Experience working with children
  • Complete 40 hours of training in applied behavior analysis
  • Complete RBT credential within 60-days of employment with ALI

Education and/or Experience

All ALI RBTs must possess a minimum of a high school diploma, have experience working with children and/or persons with developmental disabilities, possess great communication skills, and have the ability to adapt to a variety of children. Our RBTs are matched to our clients based on their expertise as well as location.

Behavioral Skills

  • Ability to utilize least restrictive measures in avoiding escalated situations.
  • Ability to use verbal interventions that involve the use of empathy, compassion, positive behavioral programming, respect, openness, client-centered approach, as well as those best practice interventions outlined in the least restrictive verbal intervention protocol.
  • Ability to utilize positive reinforcement to shape behavior.
  • Ability to analyze and distinguish between individual versus systemic issues.
  • Ability to engage in active listening.
  • Ability to calm critical situations involving a child.
  • Ability to use applied behavioral analysis principles.
