Join Apple, and help us leave the world better than we found it.The Global Supply Manager (GSM) works within the Strategic Design Engineering (SDE) organization and partners with cross-functional product teams across Apple to develop and introduce new products that are both innovative and cost advantaged. SDE’s objective is to support premium & high quality products, but to also drive Design for Cost and Design for Value to support cost sensitive products.Apple's GSMs own the commercial relationship with our enclosure manufacturing partners and are responsible for cost negotiations, risk management, driving operational and cost efficiencies through process or design change, as well overall project execution. GSMs sit at the intersection of Apple's business activities and engineering communities, and effectively balance the needs of both groups to ensure successful product launches.Mechanical/ Enclosure components define the look, feel and expression of Apple’s globally recognized industrial and product design. GSMs work in concert with operations, manufacturing quality engineers, and manufacturing process engineers as well as Apple’s Product Design and Industrial Design teams. Together, these teams implement and scale both new and existing manufacturing processes, materials, technologies, finishes and form factors.
Key Qualifications
Experience working with Product Designers, Industrial Designers and Manufacturing Engineers.
Deep expertise with design for cost “should cost” modeling
Ability to challenge the engineering design team on requirements, specifications and suggest alternate designs that meet design requirements
Outstanding analytical/negotiation skills (internal product teams and external suppliers)
4 years of experience in supply chain development, sourcing management, or strong mechanical engineering background in product development
Hands-on experience in some of the following: mechanical engineering, mechanical development, packaging development, cable development, manufacturing practices/techniques involving CNC Machined parts, sheet metal, enclosures, casings, jigs, tooling, fixtures, injection molding, plastic parts, packaging, cable extrusions, cable assemblies etc.
Ability to toggle between strategic and detail orientated thinking
Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills, capable of working in multinational environments
Ability to influence across multiple functional teams
Flexibility to adapt to dynamic and rapidly changing environments
Passionate about design for cost!
Ability to travel 20% internationally
Description
-Successful SDE GSMs thrive in a rapidly changing environment and constantly drive excellence across their own responsibilities as well as that of team members and partners. They frequently use strategic internal relationships to effectively collaborate with engineering, operations and other Apple teams. They are able make smart decisions with the information available, think and stay focused under pressure, and communicate concisely and effectively with senior management as well as peers. GSMs identify and scale new and existing manufacturing partners as well as drive creative and strategic commercial deals to achieve goals around cost, supply, and quality.-Manage mechanical cost BOM to ensure mechanical cost targets meet overall product cost goals. Perform cost analysis, challenge high cost parts and propose alternative solutions, until cost target is met.-Investigate and propose manufacturing processes, materials, and designs that optimize cost for our cross-functional engineering partners. -Investigate and propose off-AVL suppliers and/or vertically integrated supply chains and spearhead the cross-functional team to bring them up as a strategic Apple AVL supplier.-Drive product cost optimization and industry/supply chain intelligence through competitive product tear down activities and bottoms up cost estimation.-Develop a cost solutions portfolio overtime to scale across various Apple products
Education & Experience
BSME or BSIE, or equivalent. MBA a plus.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $152,400.00 and $268,200.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
