As a 5G/4G Cellular ASIC Physical Layer Firmware Engineer on this team, you will be at the center of the embedded 5G/4G/multimode cellular firmware effort within a silicon design group responsible for crafting and productizing powerful cellular SoCs. This position requires someone comfortable will all aspects of embedded software development, that thrives in a multifaceted multi-functional organization, is not afraid to debate ideas openly, and is flexible enough to shift on constantly evolving requirements.
Key Qualifications
- Minimum BS and 3 years of relevant industry experience.
- Experience with hardware control for physical layer 4G/5G or other modem data path processing
- Understanding of 5G and 4G 3GPP protocols
- Deep understanding of software engineering principles, and core computer science fundamentals
- Fundamental facility with C and C , compilers, build and source code control tools
- Significant experience with memory constrained Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and concurrent programming
- Solid understanding of computer architecture with particular emphasis on the HW/SW interfaces of high speed communication subsystems
- Experience with silicon prototyping, emulation systems, and virtual platforms
- Proficiency debugging embedded software systems. Familiarity with UARTs, JTAG, and oscilloscopes
- Some mainstream OS application level development and Python or Perl scripting experience
Description
Implement key 3GPP protocols and data path processing algorithms with very tight time, latency and energy budgets by interfacing to niche tightly coupled cellular ASIC hardware. Examples of processing include 3GPP channels and procedures such as:PDCCH, PDSCH, PBCHPUCCH, PUSCH, PRACHUL/DL HARQWork with silicon designers to define HW interfaces, processors, bus, DMA, accelerator, and memory subsystemsSpecify, design, and implement the firmware architecture of an innovative mobile wireless communications systemAssist in the development of pre-silicon emulation systems/virtual platforms and use them for pre-silicon FW design and HW verificationEvaluate and implement powerful tools for build, formal verification and testDefine methodologies and standard processes
Education & Experience
Minimum BS and 3 years of relevant industry experience.

Pay & Benefits
- At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $138,900.00 and $256,500.00, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
