Role:

Under general supervision, but following established policies and procedures, this position is responsible for providing clerical, legal, and technical support for the Collection Department including the responsibility for the filing of bankruptcy forms, documents, claims and the application of payments. Provide assistance in the recovery of charged off loans. Duties involve extensive contact with outside attorneys, trustees, collection agencies, and members. Retains and collects charged off loans, which are deemed recoverable in house to reduce outside collection fees.

Performs all duties involved in the processing of Federal, State and County subpoenas, garnishments & levies served on the credit union, while ensuring the privacy of confidential credit union and member information. Provides best in class member service to internal and external members. Must possess the interpersonal skills to discuss time sensitive financial situations in a very tactful manner with management, members, attorneys, and other outside vendors. Provide management with monthly reporting and plans toward achieving and maintaining higher levels of recoveries consistent with Credit Union Goals and objectives. Remains cognizant of and adheres to credit union policies and procedures, and regulations pertaining to the Bank Secrecy Act. Performs other job duties as assigned by the Director of Collections or Collections Manager.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

• Ensure that Liens, Levies & Garnishments are filed/ addressed accurately and timely. Ensures Proof of Claims are filed accurately and timely. Prepares reaffirmation letters and reaffirmation agreements as appropriate.

• Research loan documentation issues and exceptions, loan balances, payments, charges and customer liability on all active loan systems.

• Establish, maintain, and monitor bankruptcy files and records, while properly notating loan systems for coding purposes.

• Effect direct collections on charged off loans by establishing payment plans, and following up for the collection of monies due.

• Provide follow up and support to attorneys, trustees and collection agencies and oversee the recovery process.

• Achieve established recovery goals and objectives.

• Set up withholding orders to ensure proper record retention guidelines are followed so that orders can be retrieved.

• Communicate on a timely basis with the various federal and state agencies regarding the starting, stopping, and modification of withholding orders on file.

• Properly interpret the various types of withholding orders so that the orders can be appropriately set-up in the system for accurate and timely processing and remittance.

• Provide management with ongoing reports of activity and results for each vendor.

Knowledge and Skills:

Experience:

Minimum of (2) years working in a Bankruptcy Area coordinating litigation matters on loans, and/or (3) years’ experience in consumer loan collections.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent (GED).

Interpersonal Skills:

Excellent interpersonal skills and basic knowledge of state and federal collection laws.

Ability to deal with difficult situations, resolve problems and work well under pressure.

Other Skills:

Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.

PC proficient.

Strong telephone and written communication skills.

Physical Requirements:

Some travel required.

The ability to lift 25 lbs. and utilize standard office equipment including, but not limited to, PC, fax, copier, telephone, etc.

Ability to function in a financial institution environment
