API - American Petroleum Institute is Hiring a Regional Advocacy Campaigns Manager (Regional Mobilization Mgr) Near Washington, DC

The Regional Mobilization Manager will work with the External Mobilization team to advise, develop, and maximize the effectiveness of their outreach strategies at the state, regional, and national levels. The incumbent is responsible for the successful execution of API's advocacy program which includes advisory supervision and support of the state mobilization managers in their assigned states. This position will be responsible for implementing and coordinating federal and state advocacy initiatives, providing membership support services, engaging member companies on public policy issues, and other API projects as needed.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Lead industry-wide mobilization efforts, coordinate with existing member mobilization programs, and lead efforts for members without mobilization capabilities
  • Lead state mobilization managers in support of API mobilization goals; provide managers with development and coaching opportunities to advance individual professional development
  • Implement state-of-the-art tools and resources to increase grassroots and grasstops engagement
  • Maintain a mobilization database that effectively supports the program and organizational goals
  • Implement a tracking and metrics system for evaluating the advocacy program, including specific asks and actions of grasstop and grassroot leaders
  • Provide advocacy training and issues presentations for member companies, allied organizations, and other external audiences on the importance of industry mobilization
  • Maintain effective relationships with existing members, partners, and consultants
  • Manage and coach API state team members and 3rd party groups on the cultivation of grassroots and grasstop leaders to further grow the network of support for API's member companies
  • Periodic travel to priority states to observe, supervise, and train API team members
  • Collaborate with other API staff across the organization to ensure targeted and substantive delivery of membership services
  • Other duties as assigned

Supervisory Responsibility and Key Relationships

  • Strong cross-divisional relationships at all levels of the organization. This position reports to the Director of Mobilization and will supervise any State Mobilization Managers in their assigned states.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, Public Policy, Communications, or other related field equivalent work experience
  • 5-8 years of experience in politics, grassroots, advocacy, and mobilization or a similar role and relevant subject matter expertise (previous management experience is not required)
  • Strong working knowledge of state and federal legislative process
  • Proven ability to deliver results through leadership and collaboration with staff, members, state allies, and other internal and external business partners
  • Experience in attracting top talent and empowering and motivating a high-performing team to ensure cohesiveness around departmental goals and objectives
  • Ability to manage and lead multiple projects from strategic planning through successful execution
  • Excellent relationship-building, problem-solving, and written/ oral communications skills
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse business partners
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite products (Excel, Word, Outlook, Access)

Physical Requirements

  • Able to remain in a stationary position working on a computer
  • Move about the office to access office machinery, meeting rooms, etc.
  • Operate a computer and other office machineries such as printers and copy machines
  • Transport items and equipment up to 25 lbs. on occasion

Travel Requirements

  • Up to 25%
