Position Summary, Duties and Responsibilities

Hiring Range $50,777 - $63,820 annually

POSITION PURPOSE: Develops and maintains a comprehensive program of hiring, training, scheduling, and supervision of part-time aquatic staff, and supervises the planning, implementation, and evaluation of certification programs, ensuring quality customer service and a safe environment for patrons.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for maintaining safe environments for staff and customers, administering lifeguard training, hiring, and onboarding staff, maintaining staff schedules, and pool maintenance.

Responsible for all aspects of the lifeguarding program, including program outlines, registration management, coordination/scheduling, participant rosters, staff training/development, supervision, staff evaluations, discipline/mediation, staff retention programs, customer service and surveys and other administrative duties as required.

Responsible for quality assurance of the ongoing lifeguard program and supervises staff; assists in the development and implementation of goals, strategies, policies, and procedures.

Responsibility to recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and discipline part-time staff.

Works closely with Marketing to promote Aquatic opportunities via social media, website, and other typical marketing venues.

OTHER DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for inventory record keeping and ordering uniforms and operating and programming supplies.

Supports the Aquatics management team with staff and facility scheduling, as needed.

Attends Aquatic Management meetings and other District meetings as required, including assignments unrelated to Aquatics. Attends trainings and other professional development opportunities as approved by the Director of Recreation Services.

Lifeguards, teaches, or manages facilities when short staffed.

Displays excellent customer service, provides leadership for the Aquatics Division, resolves concerns, problems, conflicts, and supports aquatics and facility staff with emergencies.

Submits maintenance work orders as necessary.

Supports the Aquatics management team with annual budget preparation and monitors the budget as needed. Completes periodic statistical reports. Approves staff timecards in accordance with Payroll’s guidelines.

SUPERVISORY DUTIES: Directly supervises two full-time aquatics specialists and part-time lifeguards at Apex Center, Secrest Wellness Pool, Secrest Outdoor Pool, and Fitzmorris Outdoor Pool.

Job Qualifications

Working knowledge in all aspects of aquatics management, programming, supervision, standard aquatic equipment, and lifeguarding. Knowledge of computers and technology that pertain to everyday use. Knowledge of current Colorado Department of Health and Safety Swimming Pool regulations. Knowledge of First Aid, CPR, and typical pool rescue techniques. Knowledge of customer relations techniques and communication.

Possess and maintain a Colorado Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record. Working knowledge of modern office procedures, methods and general office equipment. Proficiency with applicable computer software applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, POS/Registration) and District wide computer software systems. Perform CPR, First Aid, and AED use in an emergency, perform pool rescues as needed.

Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing, to organize and monitor multiple recreation functions, work under minimal supervision, and assume responsibility for task initiatives and completion. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other District staff and the general public and make sound decisions and use good judgment in stressful situations. Ability to analyze situations thoroughly, identify problems, and find effective solutions. Deal tactfully and courteously with the public by answering questions and handling different complaints. Ability to work flexible schedules including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Education and Experience

An undergraduate degree with major course work in a recreation-orientated or closely related field preferred and two years of experience in a similar position. Combination of education and experience may be considered. StarGuard ELITE or equivalent certifications in Lifeguard Training, CPR including oxygen, First Aid, AED. Current Lifeguard Training Instructor certification. Current BLS instructor certification.

Work Environment

Occasionally, the employee will be required to work outside or drive in varying temperatures/conditions. Employee works in a climate-controlled environment but will be exposed to extreme heat/cold and wetness/humidity. Noise level may be moderate to loud, with occasional high levels and vibrations. The employee may regularly encounter fumes, odors, chemicals, dusts, and mechanical hazards.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES: Required to sit, stand, walk, use hands, fingers, handle, feel or operate objects, or reach with hands and arms. Required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and occasionally required to carry, pull, push, or lift to 50 pounds unassisted and 100 pounds assisted. Requires alertness, precision, memory, concentration, judgement, reasoning, patience, problem solving and imagination.

TRAVEL: Travel to facilities across the District. May be required to attend meetings outside of the District.
