Supervises a maintenance crew in developing and implementing new machinery/equipment utilized in the production process, while leveraging continuous improvement. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Associates or bachelor’s degree in Maintenance, Industrial Technology, Engineering or related field preferred. Experience: Three years of experience in a food processing environment preferred; five years of equipment maintenance experience in areas such as agriculture, production, or manufacturing required; three years supervisory experience required, five years' supervisory experience preferre; and strong electrical and PLC knowledge required. JOB DUTIES: Supervises maintenance crew involved in the maintenance and installation of equipment and systems. Selects, trains, evaluates, coaches, motivates and ensures safety of the maintenance team. Develop, implements and sets priorities for the preventive maintenance program for operations machinery and equipment, the physical plant, utilities and grounds to assure the safe and efficient operation in accordance with state, federal, local regulations and company procedures. Monitors employee compliance with safety procedures. Collaborates with engineering and production teams in mechanical equipment layouts and necessary facility modifications to prepare for new equipment/machinery or mechanical processes. Collaborates with plant leadership to ensure compliance with OSHA and plant safety policies and procedures. Establishes relationships with contractors, vendors, and suppliers. Ensures work to be conducted has been vetted to be the most cost effective and efficient manner. Determines when repairs/malfunctions occur beyond the scope of internal capabilities, determines most appropriate source and works in conjunction with Plant Manager to schedule services. Responsible for coordinating maintenance department workflow, assigning projects to appropriate maintenance staff and ensuring the dependable operation of operations equipment/machinery with safety as the utmost priority. Maintains continual communications with production, maintenance, plant leadership, and/or engineering team as projects progress or as production concerns arise. Interprets mechanical specifications and operational methods of equipment/machinery, training plant personnel on the proper use, maintenance, and repair of plant equipment. Directs, assists, and troubleshoots repairs and breakdowns in a timely and efficient manner. Ensures company’s food safety and quality policies are being followed. Prepares and develops the budget as it relates to expected repairs or purchases of plant machinery and equipment. Reviews purchase orders ensuring current projects remain on budget and investigates discrepancies. Process work orders received from the production supervisors incorporating and prioritizing needs according to overall effect on plant operations. Assist with special or ongoing projects in collaboration with the Plant Manager. Operates forklifts and non-motorized pallet jacks as required. In the absence of the Maintenance Manager, the Plant Manager or a qualified Maintenance Technician will cover the duties of the role. Specific knowledge of industrial production processes in an edible or non-edible food processing plant. General and specific knowledge of engineering practices/principles, and mechanical equipment/machinery used in an edible and non-edible food processing plant. Ability to develop, analyze and implement engineering methods and processes. General and specific knowledge in automation, PLCs, welding, pumps, electrical systems, boiler operations, plumbing, refrigeration (ammonia), and metal fabrication. Perform basic and complex mathematical calculations. Proficient at troubleshooting malfunctions in equipment/machinery and perform minor repairs of all new and current equipment/machinery. Ability to interpret, read and comprehend work from verbal and written instructions. Demonstrated ability to implement all safety techniques and mandated sanitary rules and regulations in accordance with established policies and procedures related to the operation of plant equipment/machinery. Sustained physical effort required to move through various work areas; directing, assisting, diagnosing and monitoring work performance. Ability to legibly document data for record keeping purposes. Ability to remain calm and professional in a dynamic work environment. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality related to all duties and responsibilities, such as engineering methods/techniques and current or future projects. Knowledge of organizational methods and the ability to manage multiple tasks/projects simultaneously. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to work daily and extended hours as necessary. Ability to assist with special or ongoing projects or other work-related areas as instructed by plant leadership. Additionally, this employee must be able to handle multiple tasks and understand the production process. Furthermore, the incumbent for this position must have the abilities to solve problems as they arise, continually strive to improve upon current processes and excellent communication skills in training personnel on the operation of plant equipment/machinery. WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPOSURES: General manufacturing work conditions exist for this job and include but are not limited to the following: exposure to chemicals, caustics, cleaning components; temperatures ranging from freezing to extreme heat; high noise levels; tile and concrete floors; machinery and equipment; extended work hours; and high exposure to dust.
