The Archdiocese of Baltimore is seeking an Extended Care Teacher. The hours for this position are Monday-Friday 12-4:30 pm at the parish preschool, St. Alphonsus, Rodriguez in Woodstock, Maryland. She/he will be accountable for the care and supervision of children. Their primary responsibilities are the safety and well-being of children in their care, but they also provide some instruction or educational support. This is a part-time position with the opportunity to become full time. 

Essential Functions:

• Supervise children at all times and ensure a safe environment is consistently maintained (adheres to all COMAR regulations and archdiocesan policies).
• Develop lesson plans and activities to help children grow intellectually, emotionally and spiritually.
• Implement daily routines for children to develop good social skills and behaviors.
• Provide care to children, e.g. assist with hygiene, potty training, first aid, etc.
• Use a wide variety of teaching methods and materials (outdoor play, art, stories, games, etc.) to enhance children’s skills and abilities.
• Evaluate children’s developmental progress to ensure learning track is appropriate.
• Frequently communicate with parents/guardians regarding child’s progress and behavior.
• Promote interacting in a cooperative manner and treating themselves and others with kindness and respect.
• Identify behavior concerns and work with parents/guardians and colleagues to address those concerns appropriately.
• Prepare all supplies needed for care, activities and learning.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent
• 90 hour child care certification
• Previous childcare/teaching experience is preferred
• Must have excellent communication, time management and interpersonal skills
• Required training in First Aid, CPR, Basic Health and Safety, etc. can be provided if needed (will need to maintain 12 hours of training annually)
• Must be able to stand, sit, stoop, walk, bend and reach as needed to interact and play with children; must be able to lift children as needed (e.g. if a child falls and needs assistance)
