Anti-Drug & Alcohol Crusaders, Inc. is Hiring a Parent Educator Near Philadelphia, PA

The Anti-Drug & Alcohol Crusaders, Inc. (ADAC) is a non-profit organization that has been in operation for 37 years delivering substance misuse and violence prevention education, recreational activities, and support services to youth and families residing in Philadelphia.

Position Overview:

The Parent Educator is responsible for providing individual advocacy and support to families; family-based prevention/intervention strategies using an evidence-based parent curriculum; facilitating parent workshops; and identifying families in need of services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work under the direct supervision of the Family & Community Services Director.
  • Work closely with school counselors and community organizations to identify youth and families in need of individual support.
  • Engage in creating and implementing recruitment strategies.
  • Represent the organization by participating in school functions, community events, and/or health fairs.
  • Manage incoming referrals in addition to existing caseload.
  • Provide support and services through school visits, home visits, office, phone, video conferencing, and/or written communication.
  • Provide one-to-one parent support and family-based prevention/intervention using an evidence-based curriculum to about 10-15 parents at a time about 30-45 families per year.
  • Support parents and families in a manner that fosters independence, growth, and development.
  • Accurately assess the strengths, supports, and needs of the parent, families, and communities served.
  • Make referrals to quality trauma-informed support services and behavioral health care systems for families in need of intervention or treatment.
  • Establish goals with families and make appropriate referrals to support families in achieving their stated goals.
  • Ensure that referrals are completed promptly; follow up to verify that a linkage and services between the family and the referred resource(s) are secured; and continuously monitor to ensure that the family is utilizing services.
  • Accompany families, when necessary, to support service appointments.
  • Conduct individual, family, and small group sessions for intensive assistance and support.
  • Document parent and family’s progress in case notes, databases, and case files.
  • Maintain a professional rapport with parents, families, and professional partners.
  • Plan and facilitate workshops, speaking engagements, activities, and events to educate parents and the community on the prevention of violence and substance misuse and its related problems.
  • Refer or recommend parent participation in various workshops and events.
  • Assist with the planning of data collection, management, analysis, evaluation, and performance assessment.
  • Collect and analyze data from surveys and observations to determine program outcomes.
  • Assist with the preparation of outcomes reports and evaluate the advancement of program objectives.
  • Gather data for required documentation and submit in a timely manner.
  • Other duties include: preparing workshop facilitation materials; designing materials for program marketing and family communications, and developing and implementing the curriculum.
  • Assist the lead staff in the overall planning, implementation, and advancement of program objectives.
  • Other duties within reason may be added as deemed necessary by the lead staff to ensure quality services.

Skills and Knowledge Required:

  • An Associate's degree in studies related to sociology, psychology, education, behavioral health, human services, or in a related field, is required. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of advocacy/case management experience working in social services, and/or a related field is required. Experience working in parent and family programs is preferred.
  • Experience with facilitating parent and/or community workshops.
  • Experience working with a diverse population in an urban environment is preferred.
  • Working understanding of community and resource development.
  • Experience providing community-based social support.
  • Great relationship-building skills are a must.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms).

Other Requirements:

  • The candidate will need to work occasional evenings and Saturdays.
  • Child abuse, criminal background, and FBI clearances will be needed for employment.
  • Valid driver's license, car, and proof of current insurance policy for local travel to schools, community agencies, meetings, and training.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $18.27 - $19.23 per hour
