Job Summary

AARA is seeking a talented and highly motivated detail-oriented Jr. Mechanical Engineer to support the development of products using 2D additive manufacturing technologies. As a Staff Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the development of materials, processes and products leveraging our 2D roll-to-roll manufacturing approach. The candidate will define and optimize machine operating conditions, debug and troubleshoot hardware issues, modify electronic print files employing standard and customized software tools, and manage printing tasks and projects. You will work individually as well as with internal and external teams comprised of engineers, scientists, material, and equipment providers as well as with individuals representing the functional disciplines of program management, supply chain, and logistics. You will support projects and programs to meet technical milestones, project, and program objectives, with the goal to deliver prototypes and products to customers and market.

  • Operate various 2D additive manufacturing systems to deliver prototypes and products to customers and stakeholders.
  • Perform process optimization and development activities.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement equipment, process, and materials projects.
  • Support the transition and manufacturing scale-up of additively manufactured products and processes from product development into production.
  • Develop, update, and formalize process specifications to support the manufacture and characterization of printed products.
  • Collaborate with team members, subcontractors, suppliers, and customers to develop, test and implement new processes and product characterization techniques. 
  • Analyze and document test results for new materials, processes, and process optimization trials.
  • Support writing of technical documents including white papers, contract proposals, technical reports, and product data packages for current customers and to capture future business. 
  • Monitor and support management of technical tasks to meet the overall project objectives.
  • Support the creation of work authorizations to guide completion of tasks.
  • Identify and document potential issues/risks and develop mitigation plans.
  • Stay current with industry trends through participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, participating in professional networks and organizations.

Experience and Skills

  • In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
  • Have the ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance
  • 0-3 years of work experience in technical field. 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
  • Good organizational and writing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently or as a member of a diverse team.
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to learn.
  • Ability to travel, as required.
  • Web handling and roll-to-roll coating experience a plus.

Education

  • B.S. degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field is required (Masters preferred)
