    Summary
    Teachers in Ann Arbor Public Schools create a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; establish effective rapport with pupils; motivate pupils to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation of education in accordance with each pupil’s ability; and establish good relationships with parents and other district staff.
    Qualifications

    Certificates, Licenses & Registrations
    • Possession of current, valid licensing or certification as it applies to this position
    • Certification in the appropriate level and subject is required for teachers
    • Dual or multiple certifications for teachers is preferred
    Copies of an active Michigan Teaching Certificate and college transcripts are required with the application packet. Original certificate and certified transcripts are required prior to being hired.
    Education & Experience
    • Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in education
    • Required valid, current Michigan Teaching Certificate for the appropriate grade level (6-12) and subject area
    • Prefer valid, current Michigan Teaching Certificate for the appropriate grade level (6-12) with at least two endorsements
    • Demonstrated success working with historically underachieving students and closing achievement gaps
    • Be recognizes as a collaborative instructional team member
    Job Responsibilities
    • Teach district approved curriculum
    • Meet and instruct assigned classes in the locations and times designated
    • Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students
    • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students
    • Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior
    • Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals
    • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects and the like, and communicating these objectives to students
    • Diagnose the learning disabilities of students
    • Evaluate pupil’s academic and social growth; keeping appropriate records and preparing progress reports
    • Conduct parent-teacher conferences for education related purposes outside the instructional day
    • Supervise classroom and students
    • Other duties as assigned
    This is a full time position requiring regular and reliable attendance on site to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

    • Read, write, and comprehend basic instructions, short correspondence, and memos
    • Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, parents, students, and administrators
    • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
    Mathematical Skills
    • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, fractions and decimals
    • Compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
    Reasoning Ability
    • Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral, or diagram form
    • Deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
    • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
    • Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
    Other Skills & Abilities
    • Work with parents and children of diverse cultural backgrounds
    • Develop effective working relationships with students, staff, and the school community
    • Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
