Urgent Care Admissions Clerk

Job Summary

This position greets patients, assembles, interprets, analyzes, and enters patient financial and demographic data in the computer. Provides general office support with a variety of clerical activities and related tasks. The clerk will be responsible for answering incoming calls, directing calls to appropriate associates, flow of correspondence as well as additional clerical duties.

Reports to: Director of Outpatient Services

Essential Job Functions

1. Greets patients/families promptly and courteously as the patient arrives at urgent care.

1. Answers the telephone, provides requested information or takes messages, and directs caller to appropriate personnel.

1. Provides interpretation of forms to be signed upon admission including patient rights and living will questions.

1. Reviews all patient forms for completeness, accuracy, and appropriate signatures.

1. Collects deposits and/or co-pays according to established guidelines.

1. Maintain confidentiality in matters pertaining to patients, physicians, staff and hospital.

1. Practices caution and uses good judgment in relaying messages and giving information to patients, families, and visitors.

1. Directs any patient, family, or visitor complaints to the appropriate person for prompt resolution.

1. Helps room patients when needed.

1. Demonstrates the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implements them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment.
   • Applies the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day to day activities of the position.
   • Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care, personnel and strategic issues. Adheres to Confidentiality Policy.
   • Maintains positive working relationships and fosters cooperative work environment. Adheres to the hospital’s Guidelines for Appropriate Conduct in the HR Manual.
   • Displays honesty and mutual respect when communicating with peers and other departments.
   • Follows through on problems that may compromise effective job performance by using appropriate chain of command.

1. Utilize concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families.

Salary $18.50-$32.76

Minimum Requirements

Education: High School Diploma or the equivalent

Certification, Licensure: None required

Experience, Training, Knowledge: Minimum of one (1) to two (2) years experience as an admissions clerk or in Health Information Services in a hospital setting or on the job training.

Physical Requirements

This position requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to ten (10) pounds. Stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, grasping, handling, and balancing 5 or more hours per day. Sensory and communicative activities including: hearing seeing, and

speaking to be able to carry out essential job functions.

Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures

Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.
