Job Summary
As Volunteer Training Specialist, you'll be responsible for designing, developing, and delivering comprehensive training programs tailored to the needs of Animal Humane New Mexico’s volunteers. You'll collaborate with department leaders and subject matter experts to identify training objectives, create engaging content, and facilitate interactive training sessions that deep our volunteer’s engagement and ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their roles. You'll play a pivotal role in empowering volunteers to make a meaningful impact within the organization.
Daily Tasks & Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):
Volunteer Training
· Work with the Volunteer Manager and other leaders to design training framework, content and materials for all Animal Humane locations and departments through an iterative process.
· Schedule and regularly deliver ongoing and limited time training for Animal Humane volunteers, ensuring completion of training matrices and that all training is reflected in the volunteer database, including new volunteer orientation.
· Work with management & subject matter experts to identify volunteer performance gaps and to create or adjust training as needed to correct behaviors including assessments.
· Conduct one-on-one training for programs that require this format, such as our Calming Canine/Read & Relax programs or Dog Walking mentoring.
· Incorporate industry best practices and innovative training methodologies into program development.
· Oversee group volunteering opportunities with support from other team members.
· Assist in identifying themes for ongoing training seminars or speakers who may deepen the volunteers’ experiences at Animal Humane, or who may be candidates to speak at the New Mexico Humane Conference.
· Serve as a reference/subject matter expert on the topics of andragogy and training.
Volunteer Communication & Stewardship
· Ensure the training calendar, new training requirements and other relevant information is shared with volunteers on both a general and as-needed basis.
· Participate in all volunteer stewardship activities, including our annual Volunteer Recognition Event in April and other in-person or virtual events.
· Treat all volunteers with respect & compassion and encourage other staff to do so as well.
· Serve as a boots-on-the-ground resource for all volunteers, remaining available to answer questions or provide on-the-fly training whenever possible.
· Assist in curating compelling and engaging volunteer content for YouTube as well as Animal Humane social media as needed.
Administrative Tasks
· Collaborate on and/or lead special intra-/interdepartmental projects, as needed (IE changes to Dog Walking Policies & Procedures).
· Maintain database training portal and ensure all volunteer records are updated regularly.
· Provide training updates and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
· Assist in preparing and facilitating online training as needed, assisting other departments and programs in this area as well if requested.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Work Environment and Schedule
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a variable schedule. At least one weekend day will be required. Evening hours may also be required occasionally.
This position requires a high level of professionalism and teamwork and is responsible for co-supervising and providing training & guidance to volunteers. Work is performed in a typical office setting with exposure to the elements, frequent exposure to cats & dogs of all sizes, as well as exposure to the general public. The individual must have an awareness of safety issues inherent in an environment in which animal bites/scratches pose a risk.
Local travel is required to provide training at our locations around the city. A valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle year-round is required. Additionally, must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and complete other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in communications, adult education or business preferred.
Skills and Abilities
Outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills and demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy skills.
Animal Humane prohibits the possession, use or distribution of alcohol, cannabis, and unlawful illicit drugs by employees on Animal Humane’s site and/or while doing business for Animal Humane.
