Animal Care Centers of NYC is Hiring a Medical Rounds Specialist Near Queens, NY

Medical Rounds Specialist

Schedule: Sunday through Thursday with Friday and Saturday off.

Summary:

The Medical Rounds Specialist (MRS) plays a critical role in assisting the veterinarian in basic oversight of patient care, treatment progress and triaging and addressing concerns. As an integral part of the medical team the MRS will work under the veterinarian to ensure there is a second pair of eyes on animals, in their absence and assign appropriate courses of action to be taken in a variety of circumstances. The MRS will participate in shelter-wide Grand Rounds when scheduled and relay medical concerns to the veterinarian on duty. And advanced level of patient care, a keen eye for detail and use of proper medical acumen and terminology is important. Critical thinking is the cornerstone of this role.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Monitor health of shelter population - identifying problems and facilitating immediate action
  • Screen, identify, and prioritize animal health concerns to relay to the attending veterinarian
  • Own cases and necessary follow-up to ensure decreased length of stay and optimal care

Salary and Benefits:

$23.50/Hour

Qualifications

Detail oriented and highly observant nature. Able to recognized normal versus abnormal without having to diagnose. General sense of urgent versus non-urgent and knows when to ask if unsure. Able to assess temperature, pulse and pain level, or must learn within 7 days of hire. Can accurately make math calculations and use appropriate medical terminology and spelling. Must complete 20 hours of advanced patient care training online within 30 days of hire. Must successfully complete skills check list within 30 days of hire

Education and Work Experience

Individual enrolled in an accredited technician program preferred, or online vet assistant program. 2 years in a veterinary assistant role ideal, or able to demonstrate advance skill set and knowledge base. Recommendation from licensed veterinarian required.
