Angels Baseball is Hiring a Los Angeles Angels-Full Time Minor League Athletic Training Coordinator Near Tempe, AZ

Overview

The Minor League Athletic Training Coordinator is responsible for leading the daily player care and medical systems across the Los Angeles Angels Minor League system.

This position is also benefit eligible including: medical, dental and vision insurance, 401K eligibility after 1 year of employment (employer matching and safe harbor) and additional perks not listed above. The expected salary for this position can range from $85,000.00 to $100,000.00. Final offers for this role will be made within the parameters of the salary range provided. Years of experience, skills, and other factors are considered when determining the salary offered.

Duties:

  • Oversight of the player health and medical practices and services provided by the Minor League Athletic Training staff.
  • Collaborate with the Angels Director of Sports Medicine/Head Athletic Trainer to establish and provide best in class player health and medical practices to minor league players.
  • Oversight and execution of the medical process for minor league player acquisitions including trades and free agent signings.
  • Work as part of the Player Development team in developing strategies for player improvement during the in-season and off-season within area of expertise.
  • Act as primary point person for all physicians and medical consultants regarding minor league player health and medical concerns.
  • Communicate with team physicians to determine appropriate treatments and arrange medical visits for injured players.
  • As necessary, accompany players to medical appointments.
  • As necessary, providing succinct and clear reports to Front Office regarding player health and injury status.
  • Organize entrance physicals for spring training, extended spring training and newly drafted/signed players, Dominican Summer League, and exit physicals at all minor league levels.
  • Hire, evaluate, oversee, and develop the Minor League Athletic Training staff.
  • Document all health services provided and communication with athletes when discussing medical information in team’s injury management system.
  • Help coordinate off-season program and communication for each minor league player at season’s end.
  • Monitor daily, weekly, and monthly reports from all minor league athletic trainers.
  • Travel to each affiliate to evaluate athletic trainers, assess players, and ensure high quality work performance.
  • Oversee the reporting and management of all minor league player workman’s compensation claims in conjunction with the Coordinator of Minor League Medical Administration.
  • Ensure maintenance of confidential health, medical, and insurance records in accordance with MLB and HIPAA requirements.
  • As necessary, provide athletic training coverage during games and practices, including rapid identification of on-field injuries. Provide immediate and accurate decision making following an on-field assessment: determination of severity of injury, ability to continue to play, and/or activate EMS.
  • Maintain budget and inventory of medical supplies at the Tempe Complex and assist each minor league affiliate.
  • Oversee the purchasing, safe storage, and distribution of prescription medication.
  • Advise organization on new technologies, techniques, treatments, and modalities for proper care of players and work with and educate staff on incorporating new research into current practice patterns.
  • Participate in maintaining a training room environment that engenders trust, professionalism, and respect for diversity at all times.

Qualifications:

Essential

  • Undergraduate degree in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Physiology, or related degree.
  • Current certification as an Athletic Trainer through NATABOC.
  • Eligible for licensure in the state of Arizona.
  • Extensive experience as an Athletic Trainer in professional baseball.
  • Experience reconditioning athletes to return to competition from injury.
  • Advanced experience with and understanding of MLB EMR systems.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
  • Must be able to work unconventional hours.
  • Relocation to Tempe, Arizona, or surrounding city, required.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree or higher in Athletic Training.
  • 5 years’ experience as an Athletic Trainer in baseball.
  • Experience managing a baseball athletic training or medical department.
  • Previous experience in a rehabilitation and return to play setting.
  • Knowledge of modern strength and conditioning practices as they relate to baseball.
  • Advanced manual therapy certifications.
  • Familiarity with athlete monitoring systems, force plate systems, athlete positioning systems, and load cell and strain gauge-based testing devices.
  • Ability to fluently speak Spanish.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to bend and stoop frequently
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds
  • Ability to be extremely active for periods of 4-5 hours at a time
  • Ability to work in inclement weather
  • Ability to work on uneven ground
