ANGELINA COUNTY
COMMUNITY SUPERVISION & CORRECTIONS DEPARTMENT

JOB TITLE: Court Liaison

BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Court Liaison is directly responsible to a unit Supervisor for attending to all duties in either the District Courts, or the County Courts.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (May vary depending on Court assignment)

♦ Conducts interviews of offenders in jail or other locations and collects criminal, substance abuse and social history information for inclusion in a written short form report,

♦ Assigns narrative PSI’s to appropriate supervision officers on a rotating basis,

♦ Collects offense reports and computerized criminal history information to support or supplement the pre or post sentence investigation reports,

♦ Assures that narrative PSI reports are completed in a timely manner and provided to the courts as directed,

♦ Completes short form PSI reports based on investigative interviews and other data collected and submits to his/her supervisor for signature approval,

♦ Maintains accurate records of all PSI’s completed in a given month,

♦ Prepares statistical reports regarding PSI activity and distributes as directed,

♦ Provides copies of completed PSI’s to the sheriff’s department in accordance with statutes or department policy,

♦ Posts district and county court dockets in mail room and identifies the offenders assigned officer if any,

♦ Appears in court, obtains necessary court action documents and assigns new cases to supervision officers,

♦ Communicates and interacts professionally and cooperatively with court coordinators, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and the courts, and

♦ Conducts DWI Alcohol Traffic Safety Education classes and other programs as directed,

♦ Coordinates TCIC/NCIC duties as required,

Court Liaison - Job Description

♦ Acts as a liaison between the department and the courts,

♦ Provides a roster of direct supervision offenders to local prosecutors and law enforcement agencies on a monthly basis,

♦ Performs other duties as they are assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Training and Experience:

High School graduate, and

At least two years of clerical experience in a criminal justice field preferred.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Good working knowledge of English grammar, spelling, sentence structure and construction.

Effective interviewing skills.

Ability to type 50 words per minute preferred.

Experience in use of word processing and other computer software.

Good working knowledge of the operation, use, and care of standard office machines.

Ability to comprehend and comply with semi-complex verbal and written instructions.

Ability to speak fluent Spanish, as well as English, preferred.

  • Must be able to withstand the wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat;

Court Liaison - Job Description

  • Must be able to visually identify offenders;
  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple tasks in a high stress environment;
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with offenders and the public;
  • Must be able to read, speak, hear, and write the English language;
  • Must have the physical/mental ability to repair/perform minor maintenance on department vehicles (i.e., flat tire, checking oil, fueling, etc.);
  • Must be able to sit or stand alternately for extensive periods of time;
  • Must be able to bend, reach, pull, and push to properly and safely file materials on a continuing basis;
  • Must be able to move, lift, and carry up to 25 pounds for short periods of time;
  • Must be able to tolerate a moderate noise level in a confined work environment with no windows or natural lighting; and
  • Must be able to use a computer, copier, fax machine, and telephone on a continual basis.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License (if employee is coming to this postion from another state this requirement must be met no later than thirty (30) days following date of hire).

Must have access to an automobile that can be used while on duty in the event department vehicle is unavailable.

Must have a telephone number at which he/she can be reached.
