WHAT YOU’LL DO
Lead and own the design effort for an Unmanned Surface Vessel
Plan and execute a technical roadmap, drive execution on critical product deliverables, and guide solutions to ambiguous problems in partnership with functional teams
Steer engineering priorities with demonstrated leadership, decision making, and creative problem solving
Accountable for the management, architecture and technical execution of an Unmanned Surface Vessel design, test and demonstrations delivering to multiple business lines
Ability to decompose complex systems into functional parts with clearly defined interfaces and requirements for each, and own the solution path when issues arise and risk surface
Manage technical scope of work with subcontractors
Requirements derivation and validation and de-risk technical objectives and manage team prioritization
Ensure delivery of predecessor high quality simulations, analysis, tests, verification processes to guide product design
Setup trade spaces and guide decisions around “how the system comes together”
Unblock engineering progress. This spans from RCA efforts on critical engineering issues to finding mechanisms to unblock the functional teams where stuck.
Identify “what is missing” or “what is important but not being managed”, manage and escalate risks, balance short term “urgent” needs with long term “important” needs, align team priorities through reviews and cross-functional meetings, and be accountable for the shared technical output of the team, across multiple functional organizations
Recognition of internal customer needs and ability to support the objectives of the business Technical management
Define milestones that break up delivery into manageable chunks, manage a delivery schedule, and define technical success criteria for the deliverable
Assist in creation of customer, executive review, and product-team materials
Assist in customer and program management
Ownership of complex problems breakdown and architecture and requirements
Owner ship milestones and accountability delegation) — Objectives with Key Results (OKR)
(communication upwards) — Risk escalation and management
(prioritization/communication downwards) — weekly meetings, all hands, transparent comms.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in a senior role leading system designs and development for motorized water craft; from initial concept through test and delivery to customers
Technical Bachelor’s degree. Preference to Robotics, Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Software engineering. Or equivalent experience in a relevant field
Basic understanding of Fluid Dynamics, Guidance Navigation & Controls, Mechanical Systems, Marine based propulsion systems and Optimization, Modeling and Simulation and how those disciplines relate to overall system performance.
Experience with data analysis, rapid prototyping, DFM and early-stage customer deployment
Hands-on build and prototyping of complex robotic systems
Familiarity with concepts and practice of mechatronics design, firmware software system design, sensor physics, tracking & calibration, and data-backed decision making.
Ability to engage technically with mechanical, electrical, firmware, sensors, and robotics software leads
Ability to lead a cross-functional team through design trades while meeting program deadlines
High ownership, mission-oriented mentality. Desire to see the product meet the end need of the customer
Extremely organized and detail-oriented, with strong verbal & written communication skills
A demonstrated commitment to a positive, inclusive, and collaborative culture
Must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. Top Secret security clearance
Ability to travel as required for test planning and execution
