Andover Public Schools is Hiring a Summer Program Counselor Near Andover, MA

Description
Counselors are responsible for group(s) of children on a daily basis: Ensure children's safety, manage children's behavior and act as a role model and mentor, model constructive participation in all daily activities, work closely with Director(s) & Rec staff to ensure safety of all children.
RESPONSIBLE TO:
Program Director(s) & Supervisors
Responsibilities
  • Must be 15 years of age or older.
  • Must be available a minimum of 7 weeks; attend all trainings and staff meetings.
  • Act as a role model for participants, display appropriate behavior at all times.
  • Create a safe environment; follow and enforce program rules.
  • Plan/ implement age appropriate activities including arts and crafts, games, sports, theme days, boating and swimming.
  • Must be CPR/ first aid certified, able to perform basic first aid skills.
  • Create an environment that welcomes participants, families and staff.
  • Foster positive relationships among participants and other staff.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Rec objectives, rules and policies.
  • Communicate with other staff and directors
  • Be punctual, organized and energetic
  • Assume responsibility for the safety of participants at all times.
  • Perform basic housekeeping tasks.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Possession of a valid Massachusetts Driver's License.
  • Identify and respond to hazards.
  • Work with different age and skill levels.
  • Assist in the case of an emergency.
  • Must be able to work outside in extreme conditions (heat/noise, etc.).
  • Possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of patrons.
